Overview :
As a key member of the newly formed R360 organization, the Marketing Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of marketing accounting and crude settlement.
This role interfaces internally with Marketing, Production Accounting, Operations, as well as external stakeholders. This dynamic, full-time position is based in Calgary and reports to the Department Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with Marketing, Production Accounting, Financial Reporting, and other departments to ensure the smooth flow of information and proper tracking of both marketing revenues and processing and transportation costs while meeting tight monthly reporting deadlines.
- Create, verify and send marketing related invoices and purchaser statements.
- Enter data and optimize the use of the energy marketing system as well as identifying process improvements.
- Accurate and timely accrual, invoicing, settlement, and booking of marketing transactions.
- Reporting and analysis of transportation commitments.
- Perform monthly and year-end financial closing processes, including the preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Analysis of monthly budget and accrual variances.
- Reconcile cash receipts and resolve missing payments and statements.
- Assist with counterparty setup and ensure alignment with credit policy.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
- May perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- University Degree in accounting or business; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in marketing accounting
- Sound understanding of marketing accounting including settlement-day activities.
- Ability to develop and manage processes, input into key processes and controls in the marketing and settlement functions.
- Experience with transaction software including entry-creation and account reconciliation is required.
- Advanced Excel expertise required.
- Experience with Petrotranz and Egistix is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, highly organized with proven abilities to adhere to tight deadlines.
- Proven team player with excellent communication skills who maintains professional, collaborative relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
You are a highly analytical person with strong accounting skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail. You are able to work independently and also to engage across the organization.
