Job Description

The Senior Manager of Risk Management at Sofina advises on relevant external regulatory and compliance frameworks, converting them into actionable compliance practices within the organization.

Collaborating with the Director of Risk Management / Senior Vice President of Treasury & Tax, they formulate and supervise the execution of approved risk mitigation strategies, policies, and procedures.

They also foster a culture of appropriate governance, risk management, and compliance throughout the company. Responsibilities encompass conducting risk assessments, delivering assessment reports, proposing and executing measures and policies to mitigate risks, and evaluating existing risk management protocols.

Roles and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Director of Risk Management / SVP Treasury & Tax and in partnership with leaders across Sofina's operational, financial, and informational sectors, the role involves researching, developing, and managing the implementation of the following : Advanced risk identification and measurement approaches, aligning with industry best practices and incorporating insights from key internal departments such as Operations, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Legal, and HR.

Comprehensive risk compliance frameworks, including policies, processes, and interventions tailored to the organization's requirements, ensuring widespread adherence.

Fostering a culture of diligent risk management and compliance through effective communication and distribution of related guidelines, processes, and procedures.

Ongoing monitoring and analysis of the organization's risk profile, both for immediate and long-term considerations, with swift action on identified risks.

Business Continuity Planning. Coordination and submission of necessary information for insurance policy renewals. Optimization of protection through cost-effective risk transfer mechanisms, such as insurance and alternative solutions.

Identification of training needs in risk management, collaborating with site managers, QA, Engineering, and Maintenance to enhance risk management education and adherence to Sofina’s risk and compliance standards.

Investigation, resolution, and follow-up on property, liability, and other claims, including prompt notification to insurance providers.

Development and communication of plans for potential loss events. Liaison with insurance brokers for insurance certificates and claims history documentation.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Risk Management and the SVP Treasury & Tax, the role integrates the organization’s compliance and risk management strategies to reduce the overall cost of risk, including through insurance, and evaluates appropriate risk transfer options.
  • Engages external risk assessment firms as needed to ensure thorough, accurate, and effective evaluations, compliance with corporate and regulatory standards, and the protection of corporate and customer assets, including conducting or assisting with investigative fieldwork.
  • Supports the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and / or Board of Directors by providing detailed reports on the outcomes of risk assessment audits across all Sofina functions, offering recommendations for corrective actions, strategic interventions, and preventative measures based on these findings.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Legal, Finance, Accounting, or Risk Management required including a Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation coupled with a minimum of seven to 10 years relevant post-designation experience in risk management and insurance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of operational, financial and informational risk practices and standards.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision with a high level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills in a team environment.
