Summer Camp Leaders
About the Role
MRU Camps is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in sharing their knowledge, passion, and expertise with children and youth.
Under the supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, the Leader is responsible for assisting Instructors with lessons and engaging with campers in a variety of activities such as crafts, sports, and games.
Additional responsibilities include the completion of required administrative duties and maintaining smooth, cooperative, and professional relations with staff, campers, and parents.
Camp Leaders will also work with Volunteers.
These are casual positions ending August 23, 2024. The hours of work are between 7 : 00am 6 : 00pm, Monday to Friday. Camp Leaders must be available for all 8 weeks of employment (July 2 - August 23, 2024) and orientation week (June 24 27, 2024).
All MRU Camps staff are required to provide the following at their own cost prior to commencement :
- Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (valid within one year).
- Standard First Aid (valid within two years) and CPR Level C (valid within one year).
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety, well-being and enjoyment of campers from ages 4 - 15 years old.
- Work collaboratively with co-Leaders and Instructors to deliver daily programs.
- Demonstrate and model appropriate behaviours for children and youth.
- Assist in classroom activities and daily set up / clean up.
- Supervise and coordinate lunchtime, recreational activities, and before and after care.
- Maintain accurate count of attendance of all assigned campers at all times.
- Attend staff orientation and any necessary staff meetings.
- Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about their child’s experience at camp.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a childcare / educational setting delivering lesson plans and curriculum an asset.
- Previous experience working or volunteering in camp related or recreational activities an asset.
- Previous experience with curriculum design and implementation is an asset.
- The ability to work well in a team and individually.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Previous experience in or a passion for Early Childhood Development, Education, Health and Physical Education, and coaching / teaching.
- Must be available for 44 hours per week (8.75 hours per day), Monday to Friday, July 2 - August 23, 2024.
- Must be available for mandatory staff training June 24 27, 2024.
