Overview
NAIT’s Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation (CAMS) is seeking a Health Education and Simulation Technology Specialist to support the technical operations of simulation and digital learning environments across the School of Health and Life Sciences. This role ensures that simulation systems, audiovisual equipment, and School‑specific software are fully functional, reliable, and ready for instructional use each day. The Specialist provides hands‑on technical support, including system preparation, real‑time troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and coordination of updates or installations. Working closely with instructors, Simulation Technologists, Educational Technologists, NAIT ITS, and external vendors, this position helps maintain the performance of control room systems, dental and medical imaging platforms, locally managed servers, and other specialized education technologies. By ensuring continuity and reliability across simulation and digital platforms, this role directly contributes to high‑quality learning experiences for students and supports innovation, problem‑solving, and instructional delivery within CAMS and the broader School.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all control room and simulation systems (AMX panels, Crosspoint routers, cameras, monitors, and local network connections) are operational prior to simulation activities in the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve audiovisual issues in real time to minimize downtime and support on‑time simulation starts within the School of Health and Life Sciences.
- Serve as the primary School‑level point of contact for EMS, 3Shape, and other School‑specific educational software, coordinating with internal stakeholders, NAIT ITS, and external vendors as appropriate.
- Support Standardized Patient (SP) communication systems, including earpiece setup, volume testing, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with Simulation Technologists, Educational Technologists, and Instructors within the School of Health and Life Sciences to ensure all digital and simulation spaces are fully functional.
- Coordinate and support the installation, configuration, updates, and troubleshooting for School‑specific patient management, scheduling, and dental imaging software (GOLD, Dentally, CADI, DOM / DOMX, PACS, 3Shape) within the School in collaboration with NAIT ITS and vendors where required.
- Maintain and monitor School‑managed servers, locally hosted applications, and audiovisual systems supporting the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation and School of Health and Life Sciences activities, including routine backups, performance checks, and content archival, in alignment with NAIT ITS standards.
- Configure and support specialized audiovisual setups for simulations, including projection, lighting, audio, playback, and external speaker systems.
- Act as the School‑level IT and audiovisual liaison, consolidating technical communications, coordinating support requests, and engaging vendors and NAIT ITS as needed to support operations within the School of Health and Life Sciences digital and simulation spaces.
- Support mobile simulation kits at school‑led simulation or educational activities, and off‑site or after‑hours technical requirements for the School.
- Perform preventative maintenance and Tier 1 hardware troubleshooting, escalating complex or enterprise issues as required to NAIT Central ITS.
- Assist with technical setup and system coordination for new educational technologies and innovation projects specific to the School of Health and Life Sciences, including assisting with implementation and procurement processes relevant to School operations.
Skills & Abilities
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to independently triage and resolve School‑level technical issues and appropriately escalate complex technical issues.Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical details into clear, actionable information for non‑technical staff.Working knowledge of School‑managed network configuration, local server management, and AUDIOVISUAL signal flow.Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple technical teams, including ITS, AUDIOVISUAL, vendors, and educational staff.Highly organized, proactive, adaptable, and detail‑oriented.Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence and enhancing user experience through reliable technology solutions.Experience with education and simulation platforms (EMS), AUDIOVISUAL control systems (AMX, Extron, Crestron), and dental technologies (3Shape, Trios) is an asset.Qualifications
Completion of two years of post‑secondary education in a related field.Considerable directly related experience.Equivalencies may be considered.Licenses : Valid Driver’s License required.Other : Flexibility in work hours and assignments.Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration
$67,147.08 - $90,233.52 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Computer Systems Support Technologist II).
