It is within this exciting context that YRP is seeking to recruit an Ombudsperson .

Reporting to the Executive Director, Professionalism, Leadership & Inclusion, the Ombudsperson acts as the initial point of contact for complaints related to interpersonal disputes and member conflict;

receiving, triaging, and analyzing member complaints to support early intervention and resolution. The position plays a key role in supporting YRP’s alternate conflict resolution model by upholding relevant policies and procedures while engaging with subject matter experts to guide alternative avenues of recourse and appropriate resolution strategies and options.

As an ideal candidate you have successfully completed a university degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Law, or a related field.

An equivalent level of training and lived experience may also be considered. A certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution is strongly preferred.

You bring a minimum of seven (7) years of previous experience in providing intake, complaint handling, and conflict resolution services within a complex unionized environment.

You have demonstrable skill in analyzing and synthesizing complaints, identifying relevant individual and potential systemic issues, assessing jurisdiction, and identifying avenues for potential recourse using a variety of conflict resolution techniques and strategies.

You consistently demonstrate excellent judgement, initiative, and discretion; recognizing when to advance / flag exceptionally serious, sensitive, or systemic complaints to management’s attention.

You are highly respected for your unflinching integrity, professionalism, and ability to take an objective and unbiased approach when handling highly sensitive and confidential issues.
