Description :
The Montague group in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) is looking to fill a Research Associate (1-Year Term) - 50% FTE position immediately.
The group carries out research in the area of automation and healthcare.
The Research Associate will work directly under the supervision of Dr. Enid Montague of the MIE Department on a project of automation of primary care services and work.
The duties will include : developing and executing research vision with PI to achieve research goals, directing junior lab members, designing and setting up community based participatory research studies, carrying out design sessions, analyzing results, preparing reports and presentations for partners, interacting with industrial and academic partners, developing research proposals and funding applications, and authoring scientific publications and conference talks.
The Research Associate is expected to publish both at conferences and in journals.
Qualifications
Education
Doctoral (Ph.D., Sc.D.) degree, with a focus on human factors or community based participatory design or an acceptable combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an academic setting, working directly in the supervision of undergraduate / graduate students, and / or directing research projects.
Of this experience, at least two (2) years must be at a publicly funded university and / or research institute.
- Experience in human centered design (requirements gathering, prototyping and evaluation).
- Experience with community based participatory design.
Skills
- Expert-level knowledge of human centered design.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with an understanding of mixed methods research methodologies.
- Experience with the development of ethics proposals.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- General knowledge of research trends and methodologies in the broader area of community based participatory research.
- Ability to identify opportunities for research and collaboration with industrial and academic partners.
- Comfort engaging respectfully with community members from a diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and work environment.
Other
- Well-developed interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to exercise tact and judgement in dealing with personnel under their supervision and community members.
- Demonstrated initiative and technical ability.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
Note : Travel may be required during work hours. This is a part-time position at 50% FTE for a 1 year term.
