Job Summary

The Team

The Child Safety Team in Prince Rupert is a hardworking, close-knit group of six professionals, including two Social Program Officer Assistants, a Child, Youth, and Family Support Worker, two Child Protection Workers, and a Team Leader.

This team collaborates closely with all internal service delivery teams and local Indigenous communities and partners to provide vital support for vulnerable children, youth, and families.

The Role

The Social Program Officer Assistant provides crucial support to Child Protection Workers, helping them deliver essential services to local children, youth, and families.

In this dynamic role, you will adapt to rapidly changing priorities with a calm and steady approach. Your work will have a direct impact on the safety and well-being of vulnerable families, making each day both rewarding and unique.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary School Graduation or Equivalent AND one of the following :
  • 2 years of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 1 year or more of related work experience; OR
  • 1 year of post-secondary studies towards a degree, diploma or certificate in a related human services field or equivalent discipline (Human Services fields or equivalent include Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology and Nursing) PLUS a minimum of 2 years or more of related work experience; OR
  • Minimum of 3 years or more of related work experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Experience using the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case Management (ICM) and / or Management Information Systems (MIS) computer systems.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position :

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and / or future permanent vacancies.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

Prince Rupert is a quaint marine city where deer and grizzly bears can be easily spotted and whale-watching and nature excursions are popular activities.

Other attractions include the old-growth rainforest and ancient rock carvings.
