The Opportunity :

Financial Analysts are responsible for providing professional support within Postmedia’s accounting group as well as working with other departments.

The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders within the organization, both providing and receiving timely information for accounting purposes.

What you'll do :

  • Preparation of journal entries to facilitate the financial close cycle. Assist in the coordination of the month-end reporting and close.
  • Reconciliation of various general ledger accounts.
  • Analyze, review, and document various financial scenarios. Summarize and review of financial information as required.
  • Ownership and preparation of all payroll related accounting and reporting. Primary liaison with the Human Resources team.
  • Ownership of aspects of financial systems, including ERP access controls, chart of accounts and other configurations. Support the changeover to Oracle NetSuite from a legacy ERP system.
  • Primary liaison to facilitate the internal compliance and certification of internal controls.
  • Prepare various audit, risk and other committee reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of certain public company reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate external auditor requests during quarterly reviews and annual or other audits.
  • Work with business units across Postmedia to streamline processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of covenant calculations related to outstanding debt.
  • Assist with preparation and review of various StatsCan surveys.
  • Various ad hoc reporting as required.
  • Assist in special projects as required.

Who you are :

  • CPA designation with at least 3 years of experience in an accounting environment.
  • CPA qualification experience at a large public accounting firm is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional organization skills. Ability to independently manage and organize multiple work activities and inputs in order to meet or exceed established deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong technical skills in IFRS.
  • Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Office and ERP experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed to communicate with peers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive change to enhance processes and improve deliverables.
  • The ability to work productively both independently and in a team environment.
