Reporting to the Food Operations Manager or designate, the primary purpose of this position is to cook / prepare, assemble and serve meals for patients / residents / customers and to perform tasks related to food service.
Qualifications :
Graduation from high school and Cooking certificate
Basic Food Safety training certification or ability to complete same
- Experience in therapeutic diet preparation would be an asset;
- Ability to work alone and under minimum supervision;
- Ability to organize daily tasks while managing competing demands on time;
- Ability to learn and apply food values and therapeutic diets;
- Ability to take directions and learn techniques for the safe use and care of food service equipment and kitchen utensils;
- Ability to maneuver heavy carts throughout the hospital;
The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties (Included but not limited to) :
Prepares, cooks and serves various foods which include breakfast items, main meal entrees (may include wild game), vegetables, soups, gravies, desserts etc as per regular, therapeutic and texture modified diet requirements
- Bakes items such as breads, buns, muffins, pastries, cakes and cookies;
- Maintains sanitary conditions in work areas;
- Responsible for receiving and storage of food and related supplies as required;
- Ensures food amounts and ingredients are available for each cooking task;
- Operates and cleans a variety of standard cooking equipment;
- Responsible for keeping accurate records of temperatures, food preference lists and meal day statistics;
Prepare and serve meals & snacks for patients / residents / retail customers
Review patient / resident diet list / info and prepare individual meal trays & snacks in keeping with the therapeutic diets
Assemble meal trays / serve meals for residents / patients / customers including catering to functions within the organization
Distribute and collect meal trays; strip meal carts and clean dishes / carts using dish machine and other related equipment
Clean / sanitize work areas, equipment and trolleys
Fill food supply requisitions for hospital and / or LTC departments
May stock groceries on shelves and refrigerators, inspect goods and rotate stock
Operate cash register as required
Maintain general sanitation and cleanliness of department
Maintain high standard of personal hygiene and follow all policies / procedures pertaining to food safety and sanitation;
Perform other related work as required.
Salary :
CG - 25 of the NAPE HS salary scales $23.31 to $25.68 per hour, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.
Hours of Work :
75 hours biweekly, variable shifts
