Design Engineer (Signal Analysis & RF)
We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer to join our Engineering team in Hackett's Cove, Nova Scotia (some hybrid work in Nova Scotia is available, dependent on projects being worked on at the time).
We need self-starters who have a keen interest in gaining an understanding of the underlying physical concepts that limit transmitter performance and designing / implementing signal chain optimizations that improve performance.
- Essential duties and responsibilities include the following : Participate in all aspects of product design from concept through system design, component design, component testing, system testing, and successful production of Nautel products;
- Contribute to the design of key electronic system components such as amplifiers, filters, modulators, etc. working with customers who use these products for a variety of applications (broadcast, military, industrial, etc);
- Develop a detailed understanding of the fundamental operation and limitations of power electronics components and how they may be corrected using signal processing;
- Stay current on the latest industry understanding of limitations (e.g. non-linearity, memory-effect) and state-of-the-art strategies for correction;
- Develop and implement novel ways to improve transmitter performance through signal processing and optimization techniques;
Contribute to research projects focused on next generation technology or new business opportunities;Develop and maintain algorithms / simulations (e.
- g. Matlab, Octave, Spice) and code bases for DSP and / or FPGA implementations;Design and integration of system components, including assisting with drawing package development and handbook technical literature;
- Working within a team environment;Ensuring quality and cost of new product design;Supporting the Production, Customer Service and Sales departments;
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives;Representing the company through direct customer contact and at events such as industry conferences, trade shows and presentation of technical papers.
QualificationsJob Qualifications and Skills DesiredBachelor of Engineering or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of achievements and education;
A strong background in analog / mixed signal electronics, signal analysis and Matlab / OctaveExperience implementing signal processing chains on a DSP (C or C++) and / or FPGA (Verilog or VHDL)Experience using lab equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, function generators, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Experience using signal processing to improve transmitter performance (e.g. digital predistortion, crest factor reduction) would be considered an asset;
- Ability to analyse problems and leverage knowledge to reach a successful solution;Understanding of power amplifiers and / or communication / navigation systems would be considered an asset;
- Previously demonstrated work experience in the design of electronic equipment, in all aspects of product design;Ability to work well within a team and independently;
