Title : Instrumentation and Control Technician
Location : Ontario

Overview :
We are seeking a skilled Instrumentation and Control Technician to join our dynamic team in Canada. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining and optimizing control systems and instrumentation.
Your expertise will contribute to the efficiency of operations while ensuring that all systems are functioning correctly.

Responsibilities :
System Installation : Install, set up, and calibrate instruments, sensors, control devices, and control panels for industrial systems.
These systems can include temperature, pressure, flow, and level monitoring devices.
Wiring and Integration : Install and wire instrumentation and control systems, ensuring all connections, signal cables, and communication systems are correctly integrated into the plant’s operations.
Testing and Calibration : Perform initial system testing and calibration to ensure equipment operates within specified parameters.
Ensure that instruments deliver accurate and reliable readings.
Routine Maintenance : Perform regular maintenance on instrumentation and control systems to prevent malfunctions. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
Troubleshooting : Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in control systems, instruments, and sensors. Identify root causes of problems and implement repairs, adjustments, or part replacements.
Repairs and Replacements : Carry out repairs on faulty instrumentation, control systems, or equipment, including sensors, valves, actuators, and electrical components.
Replace defective parts or malfunctioning instruments.
Instrument Calibration : Regularly calibrate instruments and control systems to ensure precision and compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and operational requirements.
Performance Testing : Perform testing on control loops, PID controllers, and other automated systems to verify performance and efficiency.
Recordkeeping : Maintain accurate calibration and maintenance logs, documenting all calibrations, repairs, and maintenance performed on systems.
Control System Integration : Work with engineers to integrate new instrumentation and control systems into existing plant operations.
This may include upgrading software, installing new sensors, or replacing outdated hardware.
Upgrades and Modifications : Implement upgrades to instrumentation systems to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Assist in modifying or improving control loops, control panels, and data acquisition systems.
System Monitoring : Continuously monitor control systems, instrumentation, and automated equipment to ensure they are functioning within acceptable limits.
Diagnostic Testing : Use diagnostic tools and software to identify faults or discrepancies in system performance. Perform tests on signals, sensors, and data acquisition equipment to verify correct operation.
Alarm Management : Monitor alarm systems and respond to alarms related to process control systems or instrumentation failures.
Implement corrective actions to address alarm triggers and prevent issues from escalating.
Safety Protocols : Follow industry-specific safety protocols, including lockout / tagout procedures, electrical safety regulations, and equipment handling guidelines.
Ensure systems are maintained in a safe, secure, and environmentally compliant manner.
Regulatory Compliance : Ensure that instrumentation and control systems comply with local, national, and international safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, IEC, ISO).
Risk Assessment : Perform risk assessments on instrumentation and control systems to identify potential hazards or system vulnerabilities.
Take appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
Collaboration with Engineers : Work closely with engineers, operators, and other technical staff to optimize the performance of instrumentation and control systems.
Provide feedback on system performance and suggest improvements.
Documentation and Reporting : Maintain thorough records of all installations, repairs, and calibrations performed. Provide detailed reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and equipment status to supervisors and engineers.
Training : Train plant operators and other technicians on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
Requirements :
Education : Any relevant education is considered acceptable.
Experience in instrumentation and control systems, with 1-3 years of practical experience preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Basic understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
