As the largest test lab on the west coast of North America, the High Voltage lab is capable of conducting distribution-to transmission-level high-voltage tests on all types of equipment, including transformers, insulators, switchgear, bushings, cables and accessories, instrument transformers, transmission line hardware, surge arrestors, SF6 insulated equipment, generators, insulated aerial lift devices, and transformer rectifier units (TRUs).

The lab offers a full range of qualification and certification tests to IEEE, IEC, CSA, ANSI and other international standards, as well as custom testing solutions.

Condition assessment tests may be performed in the field or in the lab to evaluate the equipment condition. What you'll do Undertakes testing and applied research using various tests and analysis on a variety of electrical equipment;

develops modified and novel testing or analysis procedures for new or unusual materials and equipment or unusual problems.

Develops and writes technical reports incorporating conclusions based on test and analysis results; develops and writes instructions for safe use and handling of equipment and materials.

Develops, researches, analyzes and tests new materials for recommendation or rejection to Powertech clients. Troubleshoots, repairs and calibrates a wide variety of electronic / electrical test equipment, related mechanical components, micro-processor-based equipment, digital / analog and chemical analyzers.

Liaises with clients, potential clients and others in the industry to develop business for the lab; discuses and explains costs and time involved in test procedures.

May be required to provide work leadership / technical direction to employees in lower-level technical positions. May be required to perform all the functions within the Technician job stream.

Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job. This includes the performance of duties across disciplines in a job of the same or lower job group.

What you bring National Diploma of Technology from an Institute of Technology in Electronics (power / control option), Electrical, Power, Telecommunications, Instrumentation or Automation disciplines with preference given to the discipline directly relating to the position or lab.

4 years related experience required. Related diploma and certificate / s and relevant Utility experience will be considered.

Experience in High Voltage Testing is desirable Knowledge of substation and / or distribution equipment would be an asset General technical knowledge in power system safety equipment (grounds, hotsticks, bucket trucks), DC and AC High Voltage Testing would be an asset.

Introductory knowledge of project management Testing of substation and / or distribution equipment would be an asset Drafting skills would be an asset Experience with data acquisition and analysis equipment is desirable Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Must be able to work at heights >

10 feet Must be able to travel up to 50% across various locations in BC. Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the role What we offer Location : Surrey B.
