Job Description :
Our established client in the utility and energy space is looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join their team. The Tax Manager will have primary responsibility over Canadian income tax compliance, tax reporting and Transfer Pricing.
In addition, this individual will assist with tax initiatives and a strategic business partner on operating and business transaction projects.
Duties and responsibilities of the Tax Manager is as follows :
- Lead the preparation of Canadian income tax and information returns
- Manage Canadian income tax audits as the principal contact for government tax audits, prepare and review responses to queries, and review assessments
- Responsible for the preparation of the Canadian quarterly and annual income tax provision and related note disclosures
- Assist with tax planning and reorganization projects, including research and coordination with advisors and internal stakeholders
- Provide expert Canadian tax guidance on tax, operating and business transaction projects
- Prepare regular transfer pricing analysis, assemble the necessary documentation to support annual transfer pricing studies
- Ensure transfer pricing policies and documentation is current, consistently applied and in compliance with transfer pricing regulations
- Manage the calculation and payment of all tax installments and preparation of cash tax estimates communicated to Treasury
- Overall responsible over Canadian tax accounts to ensure activity and balances are reconciled and appropriately reflect the Company’s tax position and status
- Develop manage and maintain strong cross-functional working relationships with business units including Legal, Operations, Accounting, Human Resources and Treasury to ensure tax is at the forefront of business decisions and any tax risks associated with new product or sales channels are proactively identified and managed
- Consistently monitor and evaluate the internal processes and guidelines to ensure efficiency and provide recommendations on optimizing and automating the tax function while minimizing tax risks
- Actively monitor, assess the impact of and respond to potential Canadian tax changes impacting the organizational structure

Job Requirements :
- A professional Accountant with at least 5+ years of Canadian tax experience
- Completion of CPA In-depth Tax Program or equivalent
- Prior experience preparing complex tax provisions of multi-nationals, US GAAP experience is an asset
- Strong team player who will partner in the process and be proactive
- Demonstrated technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive projects to completion
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills in order to communicate complex tax issues, analysis and conclusions internally to technical and managerial audiences, as well as externally to the tax auditors and other parties of the assigned jurisdictions
- Undergraduate degree in business administration or related degree. Professional accounting designation (CA or CPA)
