Job SummaryReporting to the Director of Safety, while taking daily direction from local operations, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the coordination of safety related training, development and implementation of local safety programs, policies, standards, and procedures.

The ideal candidate will excel at building relationships; supporting and partnering with front line supervisors and operational staff to meet and exceed OSCO’s established safety standards.

The field safety coordinator must facilitate orientations and liaise with senior management and regulators, communicating potential hazards and helping to implement controls.

Effective and persuasive communication skills are essential for success, as the Safety Coordinator needs to invest time to understand the trades and the type of work conducted within different work sites in our lines of business.

With a primary focus on our Field Operations at project sites, the Safety Coordinator will need to travel regularly between site locations throughout the GTA and southwestern Ontario.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain Health & Safety training material, including facilitating safety orientations and other Health & Safety trainingMaintain regularly scheduled work site inspections to assist in identifying unsafe actions and / or conditionsInvestigate and provide timely reports of all incidents / accidents, determine immediate and root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure resolution of identified issuesParticipate in and support monthly Joint Health & Safety meetings and provide effective communication of safety information to managementWork with Field and Production Operations to update and maintain the site health and safety manual, policies, and proceduresCreate / update site specific risk assessments, safe work, and emergency preparedness practices and proceduresSupport preventative maintenance policy and proceduresReview the effectiveness of the health and safety management system and make suggestions for continuous improvement using established KPIs.

Manage employee’s return to work program to ensure employee recovery and timely return to workAssist in maintaining employee records and ensure training matrixes are valid and up to date.

Manage data entry and maintenance of safety documentationSupport investigation testing measures (i.e. breathalyzer, urinalysis)Travel within Ontario is required, company vehicle will be providedAdditional duties as assigned

Technical RequirementsThree to five years of relevant safety experience in a construction, manufacturing environment.Strong understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and standards to maintain complianceProfessional Safety designation (CSS, CSO, NHSA, NCSO, CRST, CRSP) would be considered an assetPost-secondary education or technical experience would be considered an asset
