Job Description : Job Posting Job Posting Details : Director, Tax Compliance and Risk Management, Sun Life Health Finance Role Summary The Sun Life Health (SLH) business within Sun Life Canada is a leading Group Benefits provider in Canada for the 11th consecutive year.

SLH is seeking an experienced Tax Compliance and Risk Management professional to join its growing, fast-paced and energetic Finance team.

Reporting to the AVP, Management Insights, Analysis & Accounting, this role provides an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to directly support Canadian tax compliance for an existing suite of products and support the ongoing development of new products and services.

Main Accountabilities The incumbent will be accountable for leading the Canadian tax compliance and tax risk management function for an existing suite of products and services and supporting new product development.

These accountabilities will require closely partnering with SLH Business and Product leaders, Corporate tax, legal and key initiative project managers.

Specific Accountabilities Key accountabilities include monitoring and interpreting the different tax legislations in all Canadian jurisdictions that affect the products and services offered by Sun Life Health (SLH).

This role partners with SLH’s Group Benefits and Health Solutions, Canadian Operation, Corporate Tax, Legal and senior Business and Finance leaders to ensure tax requirements and risks are understood.

What will you do? Provide ongoing internal tax advisory support, research, tax opinions and tax training to Sun Life Health and other key internal stakeholders.

Monitor and communicate existing / new tax legislation and requirements from CRA and Provincial Tax authorities as it relates to Sun Life Health products and services.

Partner with Sun Life Health, Finance, Corporate tax and legal to ensure the existing framework and administration minimizes tax risks with regards to the products and services offered.

Lead Sun Life Health’s internal response to Corporate Tax in relation to tax audits, appeals and litigation regarding product and tax administration matters.

Support industry and client interactions related to tax such as industry associations such as select CLHIA tax committees about policyholder / client taxation and tax matters that affect Sun Life Health products and services.

Represent SLH Finance on select internal compliance and regulatory committees, plus coordinate identified changes required in SLH Finance teams.

Build and maintain strong relationships within Sun Life Health, Canadian Operations, Corporate Tax, and other SLF business units.

What you’ll need to succeed Strong tax legislation and regulation knowledge associated with the products and services offered in the business groups supported by this role.

Ability to identify, analyze and give insight to potential tax optimization and risk mitigation. Results oriented and critical thinking high sense of ownership.

Strong achievement, motivation and problem solving / decision making skills. Strong planning, prioritization and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

Strong communication and client focus skills for interaction with internal and external audiences. Capable of distilling complex concepts into simple key messages and insights.

Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with moderate to minimal supervision. What you will need to be successful Experience in a tax related function and an ability to understand tax legislation as it relates to the business.

University degree in business or finance or equivalent. Proven technical, analytical and problem solving skills. Attention to accuracy and detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills. Self-motivated, results-oriented and flexible to changing priorities and timelines.

Ability to influence business partners. Assets Professional Finance designation with 5+ years of experience. Experience leading projects and detailed analysis.

Experience working within the Group Benefits insurance industry. Experience interacting with senior leadership on a regular basis.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
