Job Summary

This is an advanced professional leadership and administrative role responsible for the supervision of respiratory therapy support staff on two separate hospital sites.

This position is also responsible for the coordination of respiratory equipment, supplies, and medical gas delivery systems across multiple program services in Eastern Health.

This position is responsible for the quality assurance and preventative maintenance programs necessary to ensure safe and efficient operation of therapeutic apparatuses.

The clinical work of this position provides the assessment, treatment and evaluation of care for patients with cardio-respiratory disorders and the promotion of health and well-being across multiple program services.

This position also provides consultative, informed discharge planning and educational services related to respiratory care to rural and long-term care facilities within the Eastern Health region as required.

The respiratory therapist reports to the manager of Respiratory Technical Services and maintains accountability to the Regional Professional Practice Consultant for Respiratory Therapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Constantly uses fine finger / precision, auditory, sensory, and visual concentration to provide clinical interventions, assess / monitor patients, to complete documentation, etc.

May be subject to time pressures / deadlines and subject to lack of control over work pace.

Job Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy is required.

A minimum of five years' experience within the last seven working as a Respiratory Therapist in an Adult Acute Care setting is required.

Proof of current registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.

A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
