We are currently hiring Journeyperson Welder to join the team at our mechanical evaporation facility in Unity, Saskatchewan.

Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants.

The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture.

The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2-hour drive from Saskatoon.

How will you contribute to the team?

This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, and works alongside other trades, to accomplish plant maintenance objectives.

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following :

• Be skillful in the fusing of metals using prescribed welding applications.
• Have a working knowledge of the welding equipment involved with the various welding procedures.
• Comprehend drawings and develop layout patterns for projects.
• Calculate quantities of materials
• Have thorough knowledge of oxyacetylene, shielded metal arc, flux cored arc, metal core arc, gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, submerged arc, and other welding processes as necessary.
• Recognize defective welds; know the cause and proper procedure for the repair of the defective area.
• Have working knowledge of mathematics calculations pertaining to the welding trade.
• Have a working knowledge of the required codes.
• Be familiar with the work of other tradespeople in affiliated trades.
• Perform assigned tasks according to quality and production standards required by industry.

Qualifications

what should you bring to the role?

The successful candidate will have :

• Saskatchewan certificated Journeyperson Welding or Red Seal Certification
• CWB certification or be willing to obtain this certification.
• Experience fabrication welding is required
• Mechanical background is an asset.
• Have the ability to operate mobile equipment.
• Ability to multi-task, have a high sense of urgency with regards to operational requirements and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in E1 / JD Edwards is an asset.
• Have a valid class 5 driver’s license.

What is the work schedule?

The shift schedule is a 4 days on / 3 days off rotation (10-hour shifts), starting on a Monday or Tuesday, as per the collective agreement.
