Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.POSITION SUMMARYThe Buyer is responsible for executing the complete procurement cycle in accordance with approved project procedures, plans, and budgets. In general, the Buyer must interface with suppliers, engineering, Q.A., construction management, in order to progress the purchase and delivery of all materials and carry out the duties as assigned by the Procurement Lead. As a Buyer, you will assist in this capacity. Responsibilities : Knowledge of construction industry and some understanding of design build projects. Knowledge of project management / change management. This position will be focused on change orders and therefore, detailed understanding of change order process is required. This position will be 100% on site / in office. Strong communication skills are key for this position as it will require the candidate to do constant follow-up and regular meetings with internal clients as well as vendors. The candidate is required to be driven and hands on to see the process completed from start to finish. This includes interacting multiple stakeholders in order to ensure the process is always moving forward with given constraints. Help in oversee and participate in the procurement of equipment, and services while ensuring total cost of ownership is achieved and delivery dates are met. Responsible for assisting in the executing the full procurement cycle including review of EQR / P-REQs to ensure they are adequate to go to market, generate bidders lists, generate and peer review RFP / RFI / RFQ’s, addressing vendor questions, carrying out bid evaluations, generating bid recommendations, negotiating price / terms and conditions for management to approve, formalizing purchase orders and master service agreements, managing purchase orders post award, issue shipping notices, coordinate shipments, and updating status in the various procurement system(s); Expedites suppliers, engineering, and QA to ensure that all documents and issues are brought to a successful completion. Assist in guiding, assisting, and negotiating to a satisfactory conclusion critical purchasing contracts as directed by Management; Help monitor communications, problem resolution, and contractual disputes. Contacts suppliers regarding ongoing procurement and contractual issues and resolves upon alignment with management; Assumes additional related responsibilities as necessary. Education and Qualifications : University degree, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills. 4-5+ years of experience in Procurement (Procurement / Sourcing) department in a highly flexible environment. Extensive experience in prioritizing and organizing work activities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within set deadlines and timelines. 2+ years of experience in management of critical supply chain for High-mix / Low-volume production Experience in change management and continuous improvement. Strong analytical skills. Knowledge and experience of inventory, purchasing and supplier management activity. Knowledge and experience of working with ERP systems, previous SAP experience preferred. High level of organizational and time management skills.
