Description de poste

Who We Are :

At Northland, we’re enablers of change, united by our journey to transform the energy sector into the foundation for a sustainable future.

Since our inception, we’ve been early movers in the energy industry, adopting new initiatives that pave the way for communities across the globe and helping forge their path towards a carbon-neutral landscape.

We’re a different kind of independent power producer. As developers, owners and operators who are at the forefront of the energy transition, we’re uniquely positioned to leave a lasting impact in the regions where we operate. We’ve expanded our business across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia to become a global leader, all by bringing together industry experts to find solutions with an entrepreneurial mindset.

While our work powers communities across the globe, Northland is powered by our people.

As an Environmental Manager, you will play a key role in preparing and submitting environmental permit applications for new renewable energy and storage facilities working with a team of experienced development professionals and external consultants. You will also compile and prepare environmental reports for regulators, track environmental metrics, and support facility improvement and construction projects by aiding with environmental matters within a multidisciplinary team.

This role will be based in Toronto, and you will be expected to work from our corporate office a minimum of 3 times a week in line with our hybrid work model.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate and obtain necessary environmental permits, including but not limited to NEPA compliance, Clean Water Act Section 404 / 401, Endangered Species Act consultations, and state / local environmental approvals.
  • Conduct regulatory analyses to determine project-specific permitting requirements.
  • Develop and submit applications, liaising with agencies and stakeholders to ensure timely approvals.
  • Work closely with project development teams to integrate environmental considerations into project design and timelines.
  • Maintain project schedules and track permitting milestones to support overall project timelines.
  • Oversee environmental site assessments, impact studies, and field surveys conducted by consultants or internal teams.
  • Review and interpret technical reports (e.g., wetland delineations, wildlife studies) to identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement, including public meetings and community outreach, as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to permit conditions during construction and operations.
  • Support the preparation of compliance reports and audits.

Who You Are :

  • Methodical and Organized : You naturally work in a methodical way and relish the opportunity to add structure and order to your work. This will help with the competing priorities you will be managing.
  • Detail-Oriented : Your solid attention to detail and accuracy will ensure that your work is always of a high standard.
  • Collaborative : You build relationships and enjoy working as a part of a cross-functional team to get things done.
  • Analytical : You think strategically and can translate complex data into concise analyses and recommendations. You will follow up with others where needed to ensure outstanding information or actions are complete.
  • Independent : You are an independent thinker and naturally set your own timescales and milestones to ensure you meet your objectives. You know when you need to ask for help and are comfortable doing so.
  • A Strong Communicator : You have exceptional oral and written communication skills and are able to articulate your analyses in a clear and concise manner.
  • Qualifications and Experience :

  • Degree in Environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental permitting, compliance, or project development for renewable energy or other infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, including NEPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and state-specific permitting processes.
  • Ability to understand technical aspects of the construction and operation of electricity generating facilities.
  • Previous experience in conducting environmental audits and managing environmental data. Familiarity with environmental management systems and compliance reporting is a great asset.
  • Some knowledge of environmental regulations and their application in renewable energy and or natural gas power plant construction and operation.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • What’s In It for You :

Our employees are the driving force behind our achievements. We are unwavering in our commitment to not only recognise your contributions but also to empower you to excel in every aspect of your life. Here's a glimpse of why Northland is the place where you'll truly thrive :

Presence with purpose : You can take advantage of our hybrid model (team-dependent, you work from wherever makes you most comfortable). Our Workplace Reimagined framework also offers flex time so you can define your work schedule within certain parameters.

Thoughtful benefits : A competitive RRSP matching scheme of 8%; extended health, dental and vision benefits for yourself and your immediate family from day one; paid parental leave; Accident and Life Insurance and disability benefits are just a few of the benefits you’ll be able to access.

Wellbeing first : Staying true to our taking care of ourselves and each other value, you will have access to our global Wellness Program and Employee Assistance Program, including access to mental health resources.

Floating days and Birthdays off : As part of our commitment to promoting a healthy work-life balance, you will get your birthday off so you can celebrate however you choose! You will also receive three additional days off annually to observe any other events that are important to you.
