Company Overview Meridian Lightweight Technologies is a global leader in lightweight manufacturing, dedicated to fostering a culture of creativity and innovation. Primary Purpose of Position Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the incumbent is responsible for processing payroll and related administrative support services for the HR Director and all employees. To serve as point of contact for all employees with respect to company benefit plans, incentive programs and other special project campaigns. Major Responsibilities of Position - Run Payroll: Process bi-weekly payrolls for all employees, and irregular bonus runs. Prepare all financial reports for Finance department and government agencies. Prepare manual cheques as required. Transmit and distribute payroll in a timely manner. Prepare, document and submit T4 summaries, vacation balance summaries, rate increases, etc. Fiscal reports, and summaries, scheduled prepared and distributed. Attend Seminars to stay abreast of new legislations (i.e. taxes & employment standards) - Manage Benefits: Manage company benefit programs. Assist in solving problems with insurance companies; prepare letters of employment verification, insurance claim forms, etc. Serve as a liaison between employees and retirement plan services, tracking company and employee contributions. Tracking and verifying the various allowances. Participate in meetings with service providers. Administer and manage monthly premium calculations, and address issues related to the employee benefits programs. - Wage Administration: Process wage increases associated with yearly rate increases, promotional increases and step-function increases. Preparation of retroactive pay where applicable. - Employee Data: Maintain a confidential personnel file, processing and orient newly hired staff. Personnel records, assuring accuracy and confidentiality, prepared and maintained. - Employee Relations: Trustworthy relations with all employees maintained, assuring confidentiality, accuracy and compassion to all employees for their concerns. - Self-development accomplished and career plans developed. - Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise Rights - To garnish wages when government orders or court orders are received. - To question Time Clock records when a discrepancy is found and to retain the required proof needed to answer the discrepancy. - To enroll employees into Company Benefits Programs. Contacts - Sun Life Financial – Provider of Meridian’s Medical, Dental. - Desjardins- Provider of Life Insurance and STD, LTD. - Manulife Financial – Provider of Meridian’s RRSP and DPSP program. - ADP Canada - Provider of our Pay at Work software which Meridian uses to accurately pay our employees. ADP submits our Source deductions. - Family Responsibility Office – Act as a liaison between FRO and the employee and submits payroll garnishments on the employees behalf to FRO. - Finance Dept. – Controller of Meridian’s payroll bank account which transfer to ADP to ensure that the employees are paid. - Supervisors – Act as a liaison to ensure accuracy and timely approval of employee time clock records. To issue upcoming employee reviews such as, probation, milestone and annual reviews. To follow up on overdue reviews. - Employees – To pay employee accurately and on time. To act on their behalf, when given approval, to Sun Life and Manulife to receive answers that they need from the benefit providers. To ensure new hires are enrolled and are orientated in the company’s payroll and benefit programs. Educational and Certification Background 1*) University or College education in accounting, human resources or a related field - Essential* 2*) PCP Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate - Essential* 3*) Extensive accounting and HR background with 3-5 years of related experience -Essential* 4*) Knowledge of Employment Standards Act, OH&S Act and Regulations. - Essential* Personal Competencies - Microsoft Office Professional with advanced Excel skills. - Experience with HRIS, including but not limited to ADP Workforce Now. - Strong interpersonal, time management, multitasking and organizational skills. - Knowledge of company policies & procedures. - Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. - Fluency in English - Excellent communication skills both oral and written. - Strong team ethic. All positions at Meridian support the safe production of quality magnesium and aluminum castings.
