Description de poste

We are looking for the visionaries, the change-makers, the self-starters who are seeking more from their career. Change begins with the small decisions we make, each day, to support each other and strive to create inspiring incredible educational experiences for all students, no matter where they are or how they learn. In choosing a career with Yorkville University, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries, flex your creativity and inspire positive change for so many people.

Our core values put the student experience at the center of what we do, reflecting who we are and aspire to be. If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape, and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.

Who we need

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Liberal Arts, we are looking for a Sessional Faculty member to join our department to teach ARTS 103 - Perspectives on Indigenous Arts. You will take ownership of delivering course material and assessing student performance. You will take pride in aligning your teaching with our mission of championing student success and engaging a diverse student classroom.

Sessional Faculty is required to work on-site at the Toronto Campus located at 460 Yonge Street beginning July 7, 2025. Each session is 11 weeks long with classes running between 9am - 9pm, Monday to Saturday.

What's in it for you

Impact. This is a rare opportunity to incorporate university-level course delivery with other professional or academic commitments. We are a progressive, private university disrupting education, and you will be an invaluable player bringing to light highly valued, relevant, and purposeful course content. This is a chance to align your academic and professional experience and lived knowledge to deliver best-in-class courses to a national and international student body.

Recognition and career development. Yorkville is a progressive, forward-thinking, innovative education centre. This is a visibly impactful, reputation-building role with real-world impact, focused on meeting the diverse needs of students, disrupting traditional programming, and nurturing collaboration. You will have the option to develop and deliver courses in other areas that you hold a post-graduate degree. You want to join a place that inspires change, supports faculty and students in their journey, and continuously innovates.

As our new Sessional Faculty, you will :

  • Create a positive learning experience. You will deliver exceptional course material in your area of expertise. You will implement inclusive teaching practices that anticipate, value, and respond to diverse learner needs and experiences. You will evaluate learning using a variety of effective assessment mechanisms. You will use the University’s LMS Brightspace, classroom technologies and other digital resources to support teaching and learning.
  • Support student success. You will offer academic advice and guidance to students by holding regular office hours to support learning outcomes. You will provide timely, constructive feedback and responses to correspondence.
  • Expand your knowledge. You will engage in reflective practice and ongoing professional development, leveraging information from various sources, including student evaluations of learning, to identify areas for growth as an educator. You will contribute to and learn from interactions within and outside of your department, participating in meetings and events as needed.
  • Leverage expertise. You will collaborate cross-functionally with academic and student services, teaching and learning design, program leadership, and student services to meet our high delivery and evaluation standards and ensure the integrity of the learning experience.
  • Contribute to our growth as an exceptional post-secondary institution. You will work with administrators and colleagues to advance your academic area and enhance the Yorkville community. You will contribute to promoting core values, distinctive capabilities and a positive culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness. You will uphold the integrity of academic and university policies and comply with provincial and federal legislation.

You have :

  • The education and academic background. You have the lived experience as a member of the Indigenous community, combined with a post-graduate degree. Or, you may have a graduate degree in Indigenous Studies and experience working alongside Indigenous communities. You have demonstrated experience in teaching at the post-secondary level. This may be as a TA, Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Lecturer / Faculty. A PhD or terminal degree is preferred.
  • The teaching skills. You are a dynamic teacher, passionate about your field and excited to share your knowledge with your students. You have the self-awareness and keen observation skills to understand when and how to adapt your content delivery methods. You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to respond to the needs of a classroom with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. You prioritize fostering an inclusive learning environment and are deeply committed to nurturing engagement and student success. Ideally, you have experience teaching international students.
  • The interpersonal skills. You can build trusting and influential relationships and nurture strong networks. You have a proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals. You exercise mature decision-making, smoothly navigate conflict, practice discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • The technical skills. You are proficient with MS Office, LMS platforms and educational technologies.
  • Why work at Yorkville University?

  • An atmosphere that successfully blends an entrepreneurial culture with education. We value innovation and continuously look towards expanding our programming, working with the latest research, tools and solutions. As a private school with government approval of our offerings, we have the opportunity to do more, stay current and be future-forward.
  • The chance to accelerate your career and disrupt education by responding to the needs you see and purposefully challenging the status quo. Everything we do here is about delighting and engaging our employees - and ultimately our students - from mentorship to teaching, from creative outlets to analytical ones.
  • A place where all individuals feel welcomed in the academic and workplace environments and can bring their authentic selves to the educational and work spheres. We celebrate the full range of human diversity and we acknowledge that equal access to opportunities and services may require the removal of barriers that equity-seeking communities experience in trying to obtain this access.
  • The opportunity to grow with access to free courses, certifications and programs - right up to our Masters' offerings.
  • An appreciation for the insights and skills you bring to work with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, including a wide breadth of wellness services and a work-life balance.
  • Compensation : $4,250 CAD per course. Each semester is 11 weeks long with the Faculty working 6-10 hours a week, including preparation time.

    Join us

We welcome and appreciate candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we are looking for, express your interest.

What you can expect from our hiring process :

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role and your professional and academic background.
  • An interview with the Assistant Dean, Liberal Arts, to expand on your teaching experience and approach to engaging a wide range of students.
  • Reference, credential and background check
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion are a critical component of life at Yorkville University and Toronto Film School and we are committed to making these values an integral part of our culture. We encourage applications from all qualified applicants, including women, persons with disabilities, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Two-Spirit, Intersex, Asexual + (LGBTQ2SIA+) community and other equity-seeking groups.
