Job description

Purpose :

York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is one of North America's premier institutions for education and research across the arts. The largest, most comprehensive program of its kind in Canada, AMPD brings together more than 3, undergraduate and graduate students and full-time and part-time faculty working at the leading edge of creative arts practice and scholarship. The school offers in-depth academic studies (history, theory, criticism) and intensive, hands-on professional training in all the creative arts : cinema and media arts, dance, design, digital media, music, theatre and visual art and art history. Programs emphasize contemporary artistic production and process, engage emerging technologies and forms of practice, and encourage collaborative and interdisciplinary work. AMPD provides a dynamic learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities and resources for students to unleash their talent, push disciplinary boundaries and create new cultural propositions within the rich academic, administrative, and social setting of one of Canada's leading universities. Reporting to the Operations Manager and directly supporting the Graduate Program Director (GPD), Music, the Graduate Program Assistant (GPA) provides administrative support to faculty and students. The GPA provides information on University, Faculty, unit and program policies, procedures, and regulations in a professional, client-focused manner. The GPA provides continuity, historical perspective, and transitional support to the GPD during their term appointments. The GPA contributes to a positive, supportive, student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, embracing diversity and fostering inclusion.

Education :

High school graduation plus administrative training. some post-secondary courses in Arts, Media, Performance or Design would be an asset.

Demonstrated Skills including :

Effective oral communication skills to elicit, interpret and summarize information

Effective interpersonal skills. exercising tact, courtesy and discretion when dealing with others

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work independently, multi task while setting priorities and meeting deadlines

Working effectively as a member of a team to achieve and support unit / organizational goals and objectives

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Working effectively under pressure of high volume and frequent interruptions

Good written communication skills

Ability to take accurate minutesDemonstrated Technical Skills including :

Intermediate word-processing (, MS Word).

Working knowledge of an on-line records system, including data entry and retrieval (, Student Information System)

Intermediate computerized spreadsheet skills (, MS Excel)

Web content management software (, Wordpress)

Familiarity with ARMS (Academic Resource Management System) would be an asset
