Your opportunity :
The Rotman Commerce program is offered jointly by the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts and Science. It is a highly respected program within the business, financial and academic communities. Rotman Commerce serves approximately 3,400 in-program undergraduate business students as well as over 18,000 graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Rotman Commerce offers its students a rich and rigorous academic program alongside ample opportunities to develop themselves personally and professionally.
As the Academic Advisor, Upper Year and Transition, you will be responsible for ensuring that Rotman Commerce students receive accurate, timely and responsive advising on academic matters (e.g. program and course selection, academic policy / procedure, program progression and degree requirements etc.) and charged more generally with developing and delivering programs and advising on matters related to a portfolio / area of focus, in this case, the Upper Year and Transition portfolio. You will be responsible for supporting students as they transition through the upper years, managing the Second-Year Learning Communities and developing workshops / initiatives that support the pursuit of professional designations, further education and other learning / educational opportunities for Rotman Commerce students.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Advising students on academic and / or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
- Creating environments in which individuals can disclose personal circumstances impacting success
- Providing detailed information on program and / or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines; monitoring student degree progress
- Liaising with colleagues to encourage the use of best practices and consistent programming; analyzing service delivery and / or internal processes and recommending improvements; keeping well-informed on research, literature, theory, trends and best practices for post-secondary success
- Development of upper year student programming, including Second-Year Learning Communities (SLCs) and supporting the UT3 peer tutor program; developing program and service materials; conceptualizing, organizing and executing program activities; leading seminars and / or workshops
- Offering Specialist Information Session to first year students
- Supporting professional accreditation programs, such as Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations, including coordinating CFA Ethics Workshop and Exam Review Sessions
- Organizing and promoting graduate school and professional program information sessions
