Training and Salary

Area Controller qualified salary $133,974 to $193,660

Training includes three phases : initial training, specialty training and on the job training. Both initial and specialty training include classroom and simulator portions.

Training Salary : $54,710-$57,259

Average total duration for training : 20 to 27 months

Tower Controller $97,327 to $193,660

Training includes two phases : initial training (classroom and simulator) and on the job training.

Training salary : $54,710-$57,259

Average total duration of training : 12 to 27 months

Flight Service Specialist Airport Advisory Services (AAS) Certified salary $75,483 to $118,953

Training includes two phases : initial training (classroom and simulator) and on the job training.

Training Salary : $46,862

Average total duration of training : 8 to 11 months

Flight Service Specialist Flight Information Centre (FIC) Certified salary $ 89,765 to $114,468

Training includes two phases : Initial training (classroom, simulator, and pilot briefing course) and on the job training.

Training Salary : $ 46,862

Average total duration of training : 9 to 11 months

Flight Service Specialist International Flight Service Station (IFSS) Certified salary $84,999 to $109,710

Training includes two phases : initial training (classroom and simulator) and on the job training.

Training Salary : $46,862

Average total duration of training : 8 to 11 months

For Flight Service Specialist candidates posted to most remote locations (communicated after initial training), relocation incentive on top of annual salary is as follows :

First year -$3,000.00

Second year - $5,000.00

Third year - $7,000.00

NAV CANADA has over 100 sites across Canada. All applicants must be w illing to relocate .

Our Air Traffic Services Professionals are responsible for coordinating the safe, efficient and orderly flow of air traffic in seven flight information regions, working in NAV CANADA sites across the country.

Tower Controllers, also known as visual flight rules (VFR) controllers, have a direct view of the airport and aircraft, and use radio communication to issue instructions and clearances.

After completing training, tower controllers work at one of 42 airports across Canada.

Area Controllers, often referred to as instrument flight rules (IFR) controllers, are based out of Area Control Centres (ACCs), each of which is responsible for air traffic in a large section of Canadian airspace.

Area Controllers train and work out of ACCs in Vancouver (Surrey), Edmonton (Leduc), Winnipeg, Toronto (Mississauga), Montreal (Dorval), Moncton (Riverview), or Gander.

Flight Service Specialists (AAS) provide a wide range of essential information, from helping pilots select a runway to controlling the movement of vehicles on runways and taxiways.

Our Flight Service Specialists work in Flight Service Stations located in 54 communities all across the country.

Flight Service Specialists (FIC) work in teams that provide flight-planning services and deliver in-depth interpretive weather information and en-route flight information to aircraft operating in Canadian airspace.

FIC Flight Service Specialists work out of FICs in Kamloops, Whitehorse, Edmonton (Leduc), London, or Quebec City.
