Duties

The PhD student will participate in the planning of experiments to answer research hypothesis. They will be responsible for executing the study including a wide variety of activities (growing plants in greenhouse, conducting hydroponic studies, collecting root and leaf tissue sampling for isotope analysis, root imaging and associating the results with growth physiology and biomass yields) along with writing scientific manuscripts.

The student will present the findings at a national conference / meeting.

Work environment

The work involves greenhouse based hydroponic experiments and labs work at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the University of Saskatchewan.

The successful RAP student will be screening the commercial Brassica napus lines for nitrogen use efficiency at the AAFCs Saskatoon facility and register at the University of Saskatchewan.

Raju Soolanayakanahally and Kate Congreves. The work environment at Saskatoon, SK is mostly English.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education :

Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by date of appointment in a PhD program at recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following specializations : Plant Sciences, Environment and Natural Resources or a related field.

Note : Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application.

Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

The student must meet the admissions criteria for the University of Saskatchewan.

Experience :

Experience* growing plants either in greenhouse or field.

In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary academic institution in one of the following specializations : Plant Sciences, Environment and Natural Resources or a related field.
