Senior Environmental Engineer / Industrial Hygienist

RocMar Environmental Inc. is an environmental consulting firm based in Mississauga, Ontario serving the GTA and surrounding regions.

We are looking for an Intermediate Industrial Hygienist, who will be reporting to our principals, and working closely with our Engineering Division.

Our main service areas include Mould, Water Damage, Asbestos, Lead, Biological Hazards, Sewage Backups, Occupational Hygiene and other environmental work as requested by our clients.

Duties include conducting site visits, inspections, and worker exposure monitoring, designing, and overseeing remediation activities, preparing reports, and providing direction to and overseeing the work of field technical staff.

Job description :

Perform various tasks as directed to by our Senior Environmental and Engineering staff including but not limited to :

• Performing and managing projects in : Hazardous materials assessment, including asbestos, lead, mould, etc. Worker exposure assessment Indoor air quality assessment,
• Ensure they can properly interpret regulations, codes, standards, and other requirements; help staff and contractors build knowledge in this area to ensure we remain compliant;
• Bulk material sampling, asbestos surveys, and asbestos investigation and testing;
• Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) by providing technical expertise and advice on all IH compliance and health hazards.
• Conducting designated substance surveys of residential, commercial, and industrial sites;
• Evaluating Indoor air quality using various types of monitoring equipment;
• Conducting odour investigations, Fire and smoke damage assessments;
• Collecting field samples, preparing of laboratory chain of custody and sample drop-offs to our laboratory vendors;
• Collecting detailed field notes documenting site conditions and environmental monitoring data;
• Preparing detailed site reports, including recommendations for remedial / abatement measures;
• Maintaining adequate communication (via. emails and phone calls) with clients, contractors, homeowners, facility maintenance personnel, insurance adjusters, and other project-related personnel;
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience :

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Science, Engineering, or related field
• Environmental Engineer, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) preferred,
• 5 to 8 years practical work experience preferred,
• Experience in Water Damage Restoration, Fire Damage Restoration and / or Microbial Remediation is an asset;
• Experience in building science, engineering, architectural science, environmental abatement / restoration, construction, health and safety is also considered an asset;
• Understanding of and / or ability to learn technical laboratory and field-testing procedures required;
• Experience in the insurance restoration industry is considered an asset;
• Understanding of building construction and hazardous building materials is an asset;
• Candidates are expected to have very good verbal and oral English communication skills;
• Ability to coordinate and prioritize workload to meet deadlines;
• Ability to be flexible to accommodate emergencies and unscheduled work;
• Ability to work after regular hours and weekends, as required;
• Ability to multitask, problem solve, and meet strict deadlines;
• Must have own vehicle and clean driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Ontario, often on short notice;

Salary Range : $75,000 $95,000 per year
