Substation Engineer – Electrical / Physical

Stantec's Power team in western Canada is offering exciting opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of HV / EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substations for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
• Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan / details, cable routing, AC / DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
• Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
• Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
• Mentor and support junior Engineers.
• Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
• Follow internal QA / QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to clients.
• Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
• Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.
