DutiesAs a Teaching Assistant for the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre’s (RGASC) Program for Accessing Research Training (PART), the TA will design and lead a select number of modules related to introductory research skills.
The TA will perform the following duties : develop and instruct assigned in-person and / or online asynchronous and / or synchronous modules, mark assignments, track module attendance, and answer module-specific student inquiries.
- The TA will work and meet regularly with the Faculty member directing the progam and RGASC staff. Modules to be facilitated by successful applicants include Special Topics in the Humanities and one other module to be determined from : Conducting Interviews;
- Descriptive Statistics; Inferential Statistics; Interdisciplinary Special Topic; Lab Safety and Conduct in Labs; Leading a Focus Group;
Special Topics in STEM; Special Topics in the Social Sciences; Survey Techniques; Transcribing and Qualitative Coding Minimum Qualifications Applicants must be currently enrolled as a Master or PhD graduate student in a Humanities field at the University of Toronto.
Applicants should have at least two years of experience as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Toronto and demonstrate strong facilitation and presentation skills and / or experience leading / facilitating workshops (e.
g., tutorials, practicals, courses, etc.). Applicants must have experience conducting qualitative and / or quantitative research at the graduate level.
Applicants must have the ability to work effectively with and show tact when communicating with PART administrators, students, and other Teaching Assistants.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with experience developing and leading PART modules and / or teaching experience in an undergraduate research methods course.
Completion of a graduate-level research methods course is an asset. Experience using Quercus is also an asset.Relevant CriterionPrevious experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.
