Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site in Brampton (100 Parkshore Drive) or Calgary (2775 116 Avenue NE), and will be working a of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in‑person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

Role Overview
Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is seeking an experienced leader to be its next Director, Testing Operations and to work in partnership with subject matter experts in Medical Affairs to deliver testing services to the organization and to external customers. Reporting to the Vice President, Medical Affairs, the Director will maintain overall accountability for CBS testing services that include Donor Testing, Patient Testing Services, Product Quality Control Laboratories, Reference Laboratories and HLA Laboratories. In addition, the Director will manage the current use of molecular technologies at CBS, while overseeing the development of novel genomics technology projects that will impact the operational environment for donor and patient testing.
The Director will lead the industry scanning process to identify emerging trends in testing, including technology, scientific approaches, and vendor offerings to ensure that CBS testing continues to evolve for the benefit of patients and customers. Furthermore, the Director will develop and maintain key relationships with industry partners, ministries of health and other public sector agencies, and with internal stakeholders at CBS, including those in Medical Affairs and Supply Chain.
The Director will also play a key role in contributing to the development of a testing strategy roadmap that incorporates emerging trends, corporate strategy and medical affairs expertise and insights. This strategy will produce an aligned set of priorities and a roadmap that positions testing services to meet, and get ahead of, evolving customer needs. The Director will also lead a large and nationally distributed team and will foster an environment of collaboration, teamwork, growth, and development. Finally, the Director will ensure adherence to all quality standards, applicable regulations, laboratory standards and accreditation requirements.
Qualifications
As an ideal candidate, you have post‑secondary education in a relevant discipline, with a specialization in a laboratory transfusion medicine related field considered an asset. Additionally, a graduate degree in health care administration or business administration and / or advanced training certifications such as ART or SBB would be considered beneficial. You possess a minimum of twelve years of progressive experience in a relevant laboratory / transfusion medicine environment, including at least eight years in managerial / leadership roles and five years in project management leadership.
You have experience overseeing large scale and complex laboratory operations and have worked in highly regulated and unionized environments. You have in‑depth knowledge of quality management systems and practices and possess strong management, leadership, and strategy development skills. Finally, you have a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and you are known for your integrity, collaboration, adaptability, willingness to seek out expertise, and for your highly strategic and forward‑thinking approach.
