Under the direction of the Technical Design Manager, the Technical Design Specialist is responsible for competently and successfully creating and building technical job designs (programs) for Magnum’s various service lines, which include Oilfield Cementing, Soil Stabilization, Isolation Technologies, and Fluid Services.
The Technical Design Specialist role encompasses three levels of seniority based on skillset and experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform the job design of cement job programs for both primary and remedial cement jobs, soil stabilization projects, water and vac truck jobs, and cementing tools.
- Coordinate lab testing of samples (formula mixes / chemicals) upon request to support job design.
- Provide on-call programming support, as required.
- Perform assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
- Develop, update, and drive continuous improvement in job design programs (competency training).
- Analyze data and provide reports to engineering and sales divisions; recalculating formulas as required.
- Review and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) / Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) to ensure the Operations department is working in a safe manner.
Integrate client requirements into JSA / SOPs.
- Be involved with Job Design training of class development and presentations.
- Perform job design programs as per State and Provincial regulations
- Gain work experience in the areas of cementing pumping, field operations, and dispatch. Support field operations when required.
- Perform the job design of cement job programs for both primary / remedial cement jobs including High Profile Designs , soil stabilization projects, water and vac truck jobs, and cementing tools.
- Run cement job design simulations and complete pre job analysis.
- Support Magnum’s Sales Representatives technically.
- Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Leading and Lagging indicator trending, and Safety Statistics for key clients.
- Perform job design occurrence / incident investigations using root cause analysis.
- Study and interpret cementing job execution, report issues and assist in planning safe processes for cementing.
- Provide on-call programming support, as required.
- Research and drive process improvement to improve programming efficiency between the Sales and Dispatch departments.
- Present technical presentations to peers or customers (case studies, simulation analysis, etc.).
- Perform and act as a backfill on entry-level design tasks.
- Run cement job design simulations and complete pre and post job analysis.
- Perform and act as a backfill on entry-level and intermediate design tasks.
- Participate in training and development activities.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications - Required
- Progressively responsible experience in a relevant job design role, as applicable to the level of role being assigned to.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities or projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Office).
- Able to work overtime, travel, accommodate a flexible schedule, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.

Qualifications - Assets
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (BSc) or Technical Diploma (CET, PT, etc.).
- Valid class 1 (Canada) / class A CDL (U.S.) driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in oilfield operations.
- Possess oil field tickets.
