About Us

Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw (SteS) is traditionally known as Skwlāx, which translates to Black Bear in Secwépemctsín, the traditional language. SteS has a unique vision and drive; the Band has not only led the way in tourism within the Shuswap, but it has also led the way in economic development. The creation of Quaaout Lodge, Talking Rock Golf, Le7ka Spa, and Little Shuswap Gas Station has helped promote Secwepemc culture, and allowed the SteS people to develop world class accommodation and leisure activities.

About the Role

The Housing Rebuild Project Manager plays a vital leadership role in restoring 19 homes lost during the 2023 Bush Creek East Wildfires as part of SteS Recovery & Rebuild Initiative. This is a position that combines strategic oversight with hands‑on project management to deliver safe, high‑quality homes that meet community needs and regulatory standards. Working closely with the Executive Director of Administration and the Project Coordinator, the Housing Rebuild Project Manager will guide every phase of construction, from site preparation to final walkthroughs, ensuring work is completed on time, on budget, and in full compliance with all codes and funding requirements. This role involves coordinating contractors, trades, engineers, and government partners, while maintaining open communication with community members returning home. Ideal candidates bring proven construction management expertise, a collaborative leadership style, and a deep commitment to quality, accountability, and community well‑being.

This is a full‑time permanent position, with the opportunity for a hybrid work environment. As a majority of the role is in‑person / onsite, the successful candidate is required to be located in the Skwlāx (Kamloops, Chase, Salmon Arm) region. Offering a competitive salary $85,000‑$100,000, this opportunity includes a comprehensive compensation package and relocation support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the end‑to‑end construction phase of the 19‑home rebuild project, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Administration and Project Coordinator to align construction activities with overall recovery program objectives and reporting timelines.
  • Oversee site preparation, grading, and infrastructure installation, including water, septic, and electrical systems.
  • Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, utility providers, and contractors to ensure lots are fully serviced and construction‑ready.
  • Direct and coordinate general contractors, tradespeople, and vendors during all phases of construction and installation.
  • Implement and manage a quality assurance process, including inspections, deficiency tracking, and sign‑off procedures.
  • Support homeowner walkthroughs, inspections, and post‑construction deficiency remediation in coordination with the recovery team.

Your Toolkit

  • Post‑secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in residential or community‑scale construction project management.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, permitting, building codes, and project delivery frameworks.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) designation or equivalent is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with contract administration, scheduling, risk management, and quality control.
  • Experience managing residential rebuilds, especially in post‑disaster or Indigenous contexts, is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to lead cross‑functional teams and collaborate with community members, trades, and government stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint) and construction management software.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation.
  • How to Apply

Please apply with your resume and cover letter. Additional information on this role can be found in the full job description.

If you have any questions or require accommodations during the recruitment process, please contact Alleta Newnham at alleta@engagedhr.com.

Applications will be accepted for this role until noon PST on Friday, November 7th.

In accordance with Section 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, it is SteS Policy to practice preferential hiring for Indigenous peoples. Candidates who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self‑identify.

NOTE : While we thank you for your interest in Skwlāx te Secwepemcúlecw, we will only be contacting the short‑listed candidates.
