Supervisor, Material Recovery Facility (Afternoon Shift)

I. Job Summary

The Supervisor, Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is responsible for supervising the day to day activities of employees and processes of MRF operations.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

• Supervise daily operations of the facility to ensure efficient processing of recyclable materials.
• Monitor throughput, material quality, downtime, and equipment utilization.
• Coordinate staffing and workflow to meet production goals and KPIs.
• Supervises and manages daily schedules of employees and operations.
• Champion a strong safety culture by enforcing workplace safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
• Identify and implement process improvements using root cause analysis and data-driven decision-making
• Supervise, mentor, and train a team of operators, sorters, and maintenance personnel.
• Lead daily shift huddles and ensure effective communication across all teams.
• Oversees personnel needs of the department including coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Compiles and interprets data from daily transactions.
• Creates and submits daily, weekly and month end reports to senior management.
• Reconciles P card to end of month report.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes :

Direct supervision of 10 full-time employees including : office managers, sorters, operators, drivers, and laborers.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education : High School Diploma or GED (accredited)

Experience : Four (4) years of relevant work experience Preferred : Experience supervising a team of 10-15 people in a unionized environments (including the above education and experience requirements)

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

Preferred : Weighmaster License, Solid Waste Operators Certificate

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

Normal setting for this job is a transfer station or MRF / outdoor.

The expected base pay range for this position across Canada is $78,000 - $88,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for bonus.
