What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
The EHS Advisor actively promotes a healthy and safe culture to all levels of employees within the organization to ensure compliance with regulations, safe work practices and procedures.
What You'll Do Here :
- Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including; inspections, audits, observation and coaching, Worker Trades Committee and JHSC
- Train project staff in the requirements of conventional safety procedures;
- Track and report safety-related statistics, manage Return to Work, Modified duties cases at the field level;
- Additional detailed requirements as outlined in the Project Specific EHS and related programs
- Support Human Performance program activities
- Assist in development of JSA, High Hazard, Critical Lifting and Handling forms and audit same in the field.
- Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Conduct behavioural observation in the workplace.
- Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
- Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, fall protection.
- Distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment.
- Safety presentations to clients.
- Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
- Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions.
- Co-ordinate activities of site-safety coordinators.
- Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
- Develop return to work and modified work programs.
- Accident / Incident investigations.
- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
- Liaise with Government agencies.
- Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
- Coordination of environmental issues.
- Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team :
CHSO or CRSP designationMinimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety within the nuclear construction industryRelevant Post Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety fieldA Team Player that accepts and can manage change regularlyDemonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to manage sub-contractors safety performanceEmergency Planning and Hot Work ProceduresAble to lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders, if requiredMust be comfortable with different work locations and job sitesAbility to work with limited supervision and to be proactiveBe a champion of inclusion and diversityExcellent verbal and written communicationAdaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlinesValid Driver's LicenseReason for vacancy : New
Pay Range : $85,000 - $110,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
