Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Client Support and Crisis Intervention

  • Complete intake interviews, assessments, and necessary documentation for clients entering the shelter.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning for women and children.
  • Offer practical supports such as transportation vouchers, food, clothing, emergency funds, and referrals.
  • Support children and youth, including those with special needs, through trauma-informed care and activity planning.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners and internal programs to address clients' legal, housing, counseling, and health needs.
  • Provide emotional support, information, and resources to women experiencing complex trauma, addictions, or mental health challenges.

Administration and Shelter Operations

  • Ensure intake forms, case files, and all documentation are completed accurately and confidentially.
  • Maintain client activity logs, case notes, and service statistics.
  • Conduct regular safety and security checks to maintain a safe shelter environment.
  • Manage follow-ups with external agencies and referrals, ensuring clients receive necessary ongoing support.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative planning for service delivery.
  • Programs and Outreach

  • Engage in shelter and community-based programs that empower women and children, including group facilitation and resource referrals.
  • Support specialized programs such as peer support, gender-diverse survivor services, and human trafficking initiatives.
  • Participate in activities targeting boys and men to prevent GBV and promote healthy relationships.
  • Assist with summer programs, including camp coordination and therapeutic activities for children residing in the shelter and the broader community.
  • Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or completion of a post-secondary program in Social Work, Psychology, Women’s and Gender Studies, Child and Youth Work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with survivors of GBV, IPV, trauma, or marginalized populations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and harm reduction frameworks.
  • Strong crisis intervention, risk assessment, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, including racialized communities, newcomers, gender-diverse individuals, and children exposed to trauma.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and documentation systems.
  • Current CPR / First Aid Certification and Vulnerable Sector Screening (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.

    Compensation

    The target hiring range for this position is $18.14 to $18.14 with a maximum of $18.14. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
