What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Senior Steel Structural Engineer will play a pivotal role in the delivery of complex steelwork design packages for the Nuclear Island at DNNP. This role will leverage deep technical expertise and site experience to ensure designs are constructible, safe, and compliant with nuclear standards. The Senior Steel Structural Engineer will collaborate closely with design, construction, and client teams, supporting the reduction of rework, timely query resolution, and the safe, efficient realization of the project’s goals.
What You'll Do Here :
- Provide advanced technical input on steel composite structures (multi-story platforms, heavy equipment supports) ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, and project specifications.
- Lead constructability assessments of design packages, identifying potential site issues and proposing practical solutions to minimize rework and optimize construction sequencing.
- Prepare and review construction method statements, interface with the planning team to align design delivery with construction schedules and client milestones.
- Respond to technical queries (TQs, RFIs) from site and client teams.
- Support the implementation of design methodologies and quality procedures, contributing to continuous improvement and team efficiency.
- Liaise with construction, procurement, and client representatives to ensure alignment of design intent with execution requirements.
- Support the Technical Manager in preparing KPIs, progress reports, and presentations for senior management and client updates.
What You Bring to the Team :
Post secondary education in civil engineering.Minimum 10 years’ experience in structural steel / composite design and construction, preferably within nuclear, power, or large-scale industrial projects.Professional Engineering (P.Eng) Designation is considered an asset.Proven track record in constructability reviews and site-based engineering support.Strong knowledge of ASME codes and nuclear safety standards.Experience drafting and reviewing method statements, risk assessments, and construction schedules.Excellent communication skills with ability to manage queries and interface with multidisciplinary teams.Strong leadership and mentoring skills.Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.High attention to detail and safety.Organizational and time management skills. Pay Range : $95,000 - $140,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
