Duties

As the visitor services attendant, you will provide orientation, information and interpretation on the natural and cultural history of the park and surroundings;

respond to visitors queries from visitor centres, complete backcountry registrations, provide safety information for various park activities including rules and regulations, Superintendents orders, and regulations in the National Parks Act, help visitors trip plan and advise on day use activities.

Additionally, you will use an automated cash system, and complete sales reports, complete a variety of administrative duties including inputting statistics, checking people into accommodations, completing some janitorial tasks, answering written visitor information requests / comments, completing inventories, etc.

You will be the face of Parks Canada the first to greet and welcome visitors to our visitor centres and help them connect to the natural and cultural heritage of the area!

Intent of the process

Anticipatory process to staff anticipated vacant positions from May - September .

EDUCATION :

A secondary school diploma or Public Service Commission approved alternatives or

acceptable combination of education, training, experience relevant to position.

EXPERIENCE :

Experience in interacting with the public in a reception / orientation capacity.

Experience in handling cash and operating point of sales

Experience in maintaining / restocking supplies and equipment.

Experience in the maintenance of facilities

KNOWLEDGE :

Knowledge of Parks Canada operations, outdoor recreation and public safety issues as it relates to Kluane National Park and Reserve

Knowledge of cultural history and cooperative management of Kluane National Park and Reserve

Knowledge of point of sale and related computerized applications used to provide cashier services, prepare sales reports, compile statistics etc.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

This position requires the incumbent to :

Make moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods and / or to clean facilities / grounds.

Be exposed to variable weather conditions.

Be exposed to noxious odors from car fumes, to dust, cleaning products and wet conditions.

Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others

Work shiftwork, and / or weekends, and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays

Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy / or dress in period

costume, as per Parks Canada requirements.

Maintain a valid remote first aid certificate

Conditions of employment

Possess and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 drivers license
