Job Summary :

Assist with compliance, maintenance, and continual improvement to the Martinrea Health and Safety mandate as well as the Occupational Health & Safety Management System and applicable legal requirements

Knowledge and Skills (Education) :

  • Post Secondary Education in the following :
  • Environmental Health and Safety
  • Human Resources
  • Kinesiology or Ergonomist Certification
  • Health and Safety Certification (Level 1 & Level 2)
  • 3+ years experience
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent English Communication skills (oral and written)
  • Knowledge of best practices / ESA Standards / Health and Safety Standards
  • Good presentation skills / training
  • Strong Coordination and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

Major Accountabilities :

  • Responsible for sharing in the promotion and implementation of all elements of the Martinrea Health and Safety program, including but not limited to policy creation / maintenance, program role out, training and communications as per Workwell standards
  • Employee Advisor for Health and Safety issues and concerns
  • Coordinates and participates in JHSC Workplace inspections and tracks action items
  • Coordinates and Co-chairs the JHSC meetings and follows up on action items to ensure completion
  • Conducts, with the appropriate individuals, accident investigations and makes recommendations for avoidance and improvements
  • Liaises with all departments to put forth proactive H&S initiatives
  • Advises management regarding Health and Safety legislation in relation to the workplace
  • Performs hazard and ergonomic assessments of workplace and provides feedback to Management
  • Coordinates Document Control for Health and Safety Systems
  • Assist employees with concerns and answer questions about the Martinrea Employee Environmental and Safety Policies.
  • Health and Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Representative, responsible for reporting performance measurables and concerns to Sr. Management.
  • Assist with the orientations of permanent and temporary employees and ensure their introduction to Martinrea is a positive experience.
  • Ensure all system requirements are being met for tracking the company training; Update Employee / Department Training records.
  • Facilitate training as per the yearly training calendar.
  • Support and administer the ISO 14001 system
  • Ensure that all duties and tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and at no time is the employee or their co-workers placed in an unsafe condition
  • Abides by all Company policies.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation

Working Conditions :

50% Office environment, 50% Plant floor (PPE required)

Decision Making and Authority :

  • Recommendations :
  • Changes to HR processes, procedures, forms and polices & systems
  • Changes to Safety and EMS program
  • Responses to Accident Investigations or System Nonconformances
  • Improvements of communication to plant floor employees and Supervisors / Managers
  • Quantitative Measurements :
  • KPI metrics outlined by Operations Mgr. and HR Manager
  • Injuries, Lost time, Employee motivation, WC
