3rd Shift :

Summary of Objective :

Undertakes machine setup and changeovers associated with the packaging of pharmaceutical products. Uses a systematic approach to troubleshooting and properly repairs packaging and production equipment.

Performs regular preventative maintenance on packaging and production equipment. Assists in the equipment procurement process by providing technical / mechanical input.

Performs integration of new equipment into existing packaging lines and / or systems.

Assists with building maintenance issues as required. Monitors and adjusts the performance of machinery to ensure production runs are executed efficiently, with a high-quality product and minimal waste.

Ensures jobs are coordinated and run in a manner to achieve optimum production efficiency. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of safe working practices concerning operation of packaging equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following but other duties may be assigned.

1. Responsible for the efficient setup and operation of various packaging and production pieces of equipment.

2. Adjusts equipment to ensure production runs are executed efficiently, with high quality and minimal waste.

3. Sets up packaging lines; Performs changeovers and supports tooling handling and cleaning.

4. Responsible for the operation of the Line from a technical and production standpoint.

5. Partners with QA, Packagers, and Lead Leaders.

6. Identifies and tackles continuous improvement opportunities.

7. Uses sound technical knowledge to troubleshoot and repair packaging and production equipment.

8. Performs and plans regular preventative maintenance on packaging and production equipment, including overhauls.

9. Ensures cleaning protocols are followed for all packaging equipment

10. Assists with / undertakes facilities maintenance as needed

11. Performs packaging tasks associated with packaging pharmaceutical products.

12. Participates in projects as assigned : e.g. installation and moving of equipment

13. Implements and supports a safe work environment.

14. Tackles root cause and risk assessment investigations on equipment.

15. Adheres to all safety practices, standard sops, and job-specific packaging procedures.

16. Review machine manuals to achieve optimal equipment run conditions.

17. Participates and supports project execution including documentation and moving of assets.

20. Assists in writing equipment-related SOPs and validation / calibration documents.

21. Utilizes the site’s CMMS to initiate and complete maintenance work orders.

22. Leads and Supports equipment and product qualification processes, as well as technical service visits.

23. Ensures appropriate communication is relayed to other shifts.

24. Performs other duties as assigned by Manager / Supervisor.

25. Knowledge of and adherence to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures, and rules.

26. Performs other duties as assigned by Manager / Supervisor.

27. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

This position may require overtime and / or weekend work.

29. Fabricates change parts and bracketry as required.

30. Uses hand tools and shop tools proficiently.

Qualifications : The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required for the stated position.

Required :

  • Experienced Licensed Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A), and / or 6 to 10 years of working experience exclusively as a technician in a pharmaceutical packaging environment.
  • Experienced Licensed Industrial or Construction and Maintenance Electrician (442A or 309A), with strong electrical and technical aptitude and / or 6 to 10 years of working experience.
  • None licensed candidates must complete and pass a technical aptitude test involving hands-on demonstration.
  • General technical knowledge and experience concerning electrical, pneumatic, and HVAC.
  • Familiarity with fill, blistering, bottling, capping, carton packaging, and serialization equipment is a strong asset.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Core skills in Mathematics and English usually associated with grade 12.
  • Interpersonal skills to work co-operatively with Line Leaders, Packagers, and Project Coordinators / Managers.

Preferred :

  • Licensed Industrial or Construction and Maintenance Electrician (442A or 309A) or electrical aptitude able to read and understand electrical and pneumatic schematics.
  • Fabrication and basic TIG welding.
  • Experience as a technician working on complex pharmaceutical or food packaging equipment.
  • Ability to exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
