About Burgundy Diamond Mines

Burgundy Diamond Mines is a premier global diamond company that proudly produces and delivers ethically sourced diamonds from mine to market. Tracing diamonds end-to-end from its world‑renowned Ekati Diamond Mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories, right through to retail diamond sales, creates unquestionable diamond origin and traceability.

Founded in Perth, Western Australia, Burgundy is part of CanadaMark™, a program that assures manufacturers, retailers and customers, that Burgundy Diamonds are sustainably produced and support ethical investment in Canadian Northern Indigenous communities.

Burgundy has an office in Calgary, Canada.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) with 3–5 years of relevant experience to join our Technical Services team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting underground mine design, geotechnical risk management, and ground control systems, while also providing support to remnant surface mining activities as required.

This position operates on a 2‑week in / 2‑week out rotation and offers the opportunity to work closely with underground operations, technical teams, and external consultants to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant mining practices.

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will collaborate with Underground Technical Services, Operations, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to champion best practices in geotechnical engineering and ground control.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide geotechnical input into mine design, operational planning, and hazard identification.
  • Integrate rock mass characterization, instrumentation, and monitoring data into mine designs.
  • Design, implement, and audit ground support systems to ensure regulatory and site compliance.
  • Conduct geotechnical reviews and audits of underground and surface designs.
  • Design, manage, and interpret stability monitoring systems and ground control strategies.
  • Maintain and evaluate Ground Probe Radar data, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Support environmental and regulatory teams through inspections of waste dumps and water retention structures.
  • Ensure remnant open pit operations maintain acceptable geotechnical risk levels on a daily basis.
  • Monitor, maintain, and analyze underground geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Complete 2D and 3D geotechnical and structural modeling.
  • Perform geotechnical mapping, data collection, and database management.
  • Review and update Ground Control Standards and ensure Ground Control Management Plans are followed.
  • Conduct mine inspections and prepare internal documentation and technical reports.
  • Provide site‑specific analytical and engineering solutions.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor interns and co‑op students.
  • Demonstrate strong competency in risk assessment and geotechnical hazard management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent education in Mining, Mineral, or Civil Engineering with a focus on rock mechanics.
  • 3–5 years of relevant geotechnical experience (EIT or Engineer level).
  • Solid understanding of underground mine design and operations.
  • Proficiency with industry software such as Rocscience Suite, GeoStudio, Vulcan, or Deswik.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work in underground and surface mining environments.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to operate vehicles in Arctic conditions.
