Position Information:

The DualCredit program at Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivatedprofessional who shares our commitment to increase secondary studentengagement confidence and success in a college course to teach GNED 1521 EcoWarrior.

Part-timefaculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday throughFriday during regular high school hours. The majority of courses are deliveredas two weekly 75-minute classes in alignment with the high school timetable andperiods. Part-time recruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses arebeing taught and the need for faculty to teach. Course assignments are based onscheduling and instructional needs.
Academic starting wages aredetermined based on qualifications and years of related experience. Upon hirethe incumbent will receive a pay calculation to determine their stepplacement within the pay range. Part-time professors teaching a dual creditcourse will be paid on the applicable wage grid which currently ranges from$72.56 through $128.86 per teaching contact hour.

Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models which couldinvolve teaching at a partner high school located in the community or in somecases on the college campuses. For more information about Dual Creditprogramming please visit our website:

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include but are not limited to:

  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students diverse cultural and educational backgrounds experiences and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning manage and post grades and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Working effectively with students the program team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in Environmental Science Ecology or Sustainability or other relevant area.
  • A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design forLearning and current assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous environmental perspectives is an asset.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  • Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  • Proven track record of life-long learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students faculty support staff administrators and community stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system.
  • Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire.
