Hours: Teaching is normally scheduled between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, Monday – Friday. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, workload may be up to 44 hours per week.

Home Campus: Stoney Creek

Rate of Pay: $77,153 - $133,752 per year

Start Rate: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine the step within the range as per the Collective Agreement.

Job Summary

The Building Systems and Sustainability department within the Faculty of Climate Action, Trades, Apprenticeship and Transportation requires a full-time Professor to teach in the Welding Post-Secondary and apprenticeship programs.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Professors in this department are responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment using a blended model of in-person and online content delivery.

Other teaching duties may be assigned within the Faculty of Climate Action, Trades, Apprenticeship and Transportation on an occasional basis as required by the College.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Teaching theory and practical application components
• Creating a positive sustainable and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
• Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum and students.
• Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
• Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
• Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program.
• Enhancing educational delivery and experiences using the College’s MyCanvas learning management system and other technology to facilitate student learning.
• Applying College values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
• Using the College’s My Canvas learning management system to present curriculum, testing and online activities.
• Participating in program quality assurance, innovation, applied research and accreditation activities.
• Participating in program, school, faculty, and college-wide recruitment and marketing activities.

Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the role:

• A Certificate of Qualification, Red Seal, as a Welder (456A).
• A minimum of five years’ experience as a Certified Tradesperson.
• CWB certification is considered an asset.
• A secondary trade in IMM, Sheet Metal, Refrigeration or Steam Fitting is considered an asset.
• Related teaching experience, preferably in a Post-Secondary/ apprenticeship setting.
• Proven experience in curriculum development, including designing learning outcomes, course materials, and assessment strategies
• Adult education teaching certificate would be an asset.
• Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages.
• Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
• Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
• The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
