As a Specialist Risk Consultant, with our Mid-Market & Aviva Business division you will support the Aviva Risk Management Solutions (ARMS) team and associated property and casualty underwriting community by conducting surveys and completing associated risk engineering reports.
This role primarily includes field risk consulting with some account management responsibilities.
This role is home-based and flexible, with regular travel to client premises within the East Coast region and on occasions nationally.
What you’ll do
Complete a wide range of property, casualty, product liability, contractor, and builder’s risk field surveys and associated risk management / underwriting reports.
Generate technical property risk engineering reports and other related documents in conjunction with the field surveys.
On occasion, manage account portfolios and provide account and field level risk consulting to Aviva’s prevention and underwriting requirements.
Provide technical guidance to underwriting and assist in solving / resolving identified property risk engineering deficiencies.
Maintain risk engineering services to ARMS standards (high quality, on-time and cost effective).
Support, assist and collaborate with management, colleagues and partners in the development, support and enhancement of risk and insurance services.
What you’ll bring
University of College diploma or degree in related technical discipline.
Ability to read and assess sprinkler, fire pump and suppression system plans and hydraulic reviews.
Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
Ability to effectively work with MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong technical writing skills.
Ability to navigate various IT systems within Aviva including Loss Control 360 and Claims Center.
Fully effective interpersonal, writing, and other communication skills required to develop and maintain relationships with peers, customers and industry contacts.
Ability to develop and maintain internal / external relationships, communicate successfully and to be able to lead and influence effectively.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain as some international travel maybe required).
Travel within East Coast region (75%) and nationally (up to 25%), as required.
10+ years’ experience conducting property and casualty surveys of middle market risks.
Good understanding of property and product liability risks in manufacturing, warehousing, and wholesale operations.
Good understanding of Canadian building / fire codes, NFPA standards and ability to read and apply industry recognized standards (Factory Mutual or GE Gaps Guidelines).
Understanding of Loss Scenario Engineering (MFL / PML / NLE).
Working towards (or obtained) an advanced technical degree or certification of a professional risk management designation (CET, NICET, CFPS or CRM, CIP).
Account management experience.
Experience with contractors and builder’s risk.
Ability to analyze business interruption and extra expense worksheets.
