We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team : Investigations Advisor (Employee Misconduct Towards Students) Full-time, 12 Month Term Assignment Monday - Friday, 35 Hours Per WeekUnion Exempt Level 7 : $86,632 to $101,957 Reporting to the Legal Counsel, the Investigations Advisor is responsible for the implementation of the Board’s policy and procedure dealing with alleged employee misconduct toward students including : conducting fair and effective investigations into alleged misconduct toward students and making factual findings;

coordinating and delivery of training for OCDSB staff and administration in the policy and its procedures, and the legislative duty to report.

The Advisor will provide advice to Principals, Managers and Superintendents on how to effectively respond to employee misconduct or other forms of culpable behaviour, and with respect to child protection matters as they relate to alleged staff conduct.

Qualifications Bachelor of Social Work or related discipline and six years of progressively responsible experience in dealing with investigations related to children and / or child protection.

Experience investigating child protection concerns for a Children's Aid Society is considered an asset. Experience conducting complex workplace investigations and experience working with unions and unionized employees is considered an asset.

Ability to identify and address potential equity and human rights concerns related to interactions between employees and students.

  • Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act as it pertains to abuse of children, child abuse detection and reporting, misconduct investigations and clinical treatment of abuse victims;
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the rules of evidence and police investigative procedures as they relate to harm towards children;

Excellent communication skills required in order to respond, clarify or request pertinent information from others, either in writing or through verbal conversations, and must demonstrate interpersonal qualities to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including using sensitivity and empathy with affected stakeholders.

Oral communications for making presentations, in a large or small group setting; Writing skills for preparing reports, complex correspondence, and communications to the system.

Organizational skills, as well as time management techniques for organizing and planning work, juggling multiple priorities and demands;

and meeting deadlines. Significant judgment skills required for decision-making, and the ability to take / recommend appropriate action.

High degree of discretion required when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
