Post-Secondary Employers’ Association (PSEA)

Location : Vancouver, BC

The Post-Secondary Employers' Association (PSEA) is the employer bargaining agent for all public colleges, institutes, and special-purpose teaching universities in British Columbia.

These institutions constitute the BC Post-Secondary sector. They are governed by the College & Institute Act and the University Act, respectively.

PSEA is part of a broader, centralized labour relations infrastructure that was established by the provincial government in 1993 to support government in setting a provincial bargaining mandate consistent with its fiscal goals, while providing employers with a degree of autonomy.

PSEA is one of six public sector employers’ associations in BC.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director of Legal & Sector Services works closely with the CEO, member presidents and HR leads, and government partners to provide strategic direction and coordination in the delivery of legal services in the public post-secondary sector to PSEA’s 19 member institutions.

The Executive Director will also provide support and advice to bargaining teams through collective bargaining processes.

The Executive Director brings a strong client focus and commitment to deliver a consistently high calibre of service, provides advice and support to members and the PSEA Board on a range of legal matters including labour litigation with sectoral impact, and manages the provincial grievance and arbitration strategy.

The Executive Director also provides leadership and direction to PSEA’s legal and learning teams.

As the ideal candidate, you bring significant experience in labour law, ideally gained in post-secondary, or other parallel public sector organizations.

Legal experience working in-house and / or with multiple stakeholders would be highly beneficial. With superior relationship skills, you are a trusted and relatable, with a track record of finding practical, workable solutions and of providing clear legal advice in a pragmatic and risk-based manner, in addition to the strategic agility to influence a wide range of external stakeholders.

Direct exposure to collective bargaining considered an asset.

The salary range for this position commences at $172,187, with a fully qualified candidate expected to be placed near the midpoint of $181,753.

Placement within a salary band is typically based upon a review of skills, experience, and internal equity.
