ABOUT THE CLIENT

My client is a successful law firm specializing in litigation, with offices across Canada. They foster an innovative and supportive environment, emphasizing professionalism and collaboration among our team members.

ABOUT THE ROLE;

They are currently seeking an Accounting Clerk to join their Toronto team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, possess a strong work ethic, and demonstrate a desire to work in accounting.

Key attributes include a client service focus, strong multitasking abilities, analytical and organizational skills, proficiency with technology, and excellent communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Prepare monthly draft bills (prebill / proforma) for internal review by professionals.
  • Track and ensure the return of draft bills for invoice processing and finalization.
  • Issue invoices to clients and address any related inquiries.
  • Process invoice payments, including charging clients' credit cards and posting cheque and electronic payments.
  • Handle accounts payable, posting client disbursements such as Civil Litigation Filing Levy.
  • Manage trust accounting, including the deposit and disbursement of funds in compliance with Law Society rules.
  • Implement accounting policies and procedures, and communicate accounting information to staff at all levels.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding accounting processes.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assist with ad hoc projects.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 1+ years of accounting experience in a legal / law firm setting
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and a client service mindset.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new responsibilities as necessary.
  • Knowledge of law firm billing processes and familiarity with legal billing software (e.g., Elite or 3E) is advantageous.
  • Experience in a law firm and with trust accounting is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION :

  • $55,000-$65,000
