Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, Regulatory and Professional Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer, the Legal Counsel, Privacy and Data Protection is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, management and monitoring of KPMG's privacy and data protection policies, processes and programs.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, high-caliber in-house legal team in a thriving and progressive international organization.

What you will do

  • Perform privacy impact assessments for new technologies, applications, processes and service lines;
  • Remediate and document data breaches;
  • Negotiate the privacy and data protection components of client and supplier contracts;
  • Prepare submissions in response to access to information consultations;
  • Provide ongoing guidance to KPMG's client-facing business units and internal departments on matters related to privacy and data protection;
  • Attend to the privacy and data protection aspects of internal and external audits, certifications and risk management reviews; and
  • Oversee external counsel as required.

What you bring to the role

  • You have 2-5 years' experience in advising on privacy and data protection matters, preferably through a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
  • You are knowledgeable in all Canadian federal and provincial privacy laws and regulations, as well as CASL and GDPR.
  • You hold a degree in law, and are licensed to practice law in Canada.
  • Certification as a privacy specialist, while not mandatory, is preferable.
