Position : Product Manager Electrical / Electronic
CANAROPA is a national builder’s hardware company situated in Montreal (QC) with branches across Canada. We currently have an opportunity for an energetic, self motivated, responsible individual to join our team as a Product Manager.
Position Summary :
The role of the Product Manager is to identify and develop products which are usable, feasible and valuable to the organization.
The expectation is to assimilate information from end-users, customers, architects, designers, developers and published sources, to become well versed about a market and its product requirements.
The ability to define a product roadmap and aptitude to develop an achievable action plan with budgets and timelines. Possess the leadership qualities to guide a team of individuals to successfully execute the action plan and provide the necessary product support to maximize the full potential of an opportunity.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Capture, document and communicate new product / system requirements (features, attributes, functionality, certification, packaging, etc.)
- Determine market size by region, sales channel, and vertical.
- Explore Pricing models by size by volume, sales channel, and vertical
- Taking the initiative to drive the research, design, development and testing of new electrical and electronic products, equipment and systems
- Explore sources to purchase, fabricate, assemble, package, and test new products.
- Manage production processes (raw materials, tool production, manufacturing, assembly, prototyping, certifying, production sample approvals, etc) during of prototypes during product the development phase.
- Manage the test phase of the product to ensure it meets all requirements and receives all required certifications necessary to comply with market requirements.
- Prepare business case and final recommendation to management for all new electrical / electronic product / system considerations.
- Identify potential launch customers to prototype and test new products under development.
- Together with Engineering and Publication Departments produce all technical documentation necessary to specify, test, inspect, configure, instal, calibrate and maintain all electrical / electronic products / systems (mechanical drawings and assemblies, wiring diagrams, installation instructions, door preparations, etc.,)
- Train Purchasing department to procure new product once it has been developed.
- Train QC department to inspect, configure, and / or repair new product once it has been introduced.
- Train Marketing and Sales Departments to promote and sell the product (pitch why purchase the product, its benefits, functionality, etc.
once it has been introduced.
- Monitor, track and analyze new product sales history by customer, channel and vertical market.
- Course correct to ensure new products meet / exceed their sales / financial objectives throughout their life cycle.
- Schedule and plan monthly meetings to provide status, risks, timelines, etc. to management for all products in development.
- Publish meeting minutes and track all action items.
- Review business operations relating to customer experience / service, recommend improvements, monitor, and measure impact while the product is in the beginning phase of its life cycle.
- Liaise between different departments and communicate recommendations for improving the product and its processes in its early phase.
- Report monthly, quarterly, and yearly new product performance to management and the respective sales teams.
- Occasional travel may be required for new product training across the organization, to customers as well as to perform site surveys and inspections.
Core Competencies :
The ideal candidate shall be technically inclined and able to work autonomously and as part of a team. They must be conscientious, attentive to detail and possess a sound understanding of business processes and concepts.
They must have experience in mapping requirements to design specifications (mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc).
They must be resourceful and able to devise creative solutions to problems. They posses a proficiency with Project Management tools, MS Office Suite, especially proficient in Excel, Word, and Power Point.
Experience navigating through distribution ERP and CRM systems, mining databases, and generating business reports.
The candidate must be fluent in English and French (oral and written).
Qualifications :
The successful incumbent to the position is technically inclined, creative, highly analytical, well organized, an effective communicator (written and verbal) and goal / objective oriented.
Must be capable of thinking strategically and enabling the company to achieve its product objectives and sales growth. Possess effective time management skills.
Education and Experience :
A relevant post secondary certificate or degree and 5 years experience in a similar role are required.
