Manager, Clinical Services, Regional Operations

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Manager to oversee the operating rooms, medical device reprocessing department (MDRD), oral oncology and an inpatient and medical day care unit at Vancouver Centre.

It is an exciting time to join BC Cancer as we begin to implement the BC Cancer Plan which has brought significant investment to our services.

As a result we are looking for a dynamic, curious and effective manager to support change management and transformation of clinical services.

As the Manager, Clinical Services you'll report directly to the Director, Regional Clinical Operations, and be responsible for the effective and efficient management of designated clinical services at a regional Cancer Centre.

Responsibilities include managing and directing staff, budget development and oversight, and implementation of operational plans.

As the manager, you'll be responsible for providing leadership and direction for the management, utilization and risk management, and quality improvement for clinical operations in the Cancer Centre.

What you’ll do

Develop strategic priorities and coordinate operational planning and implementation for the Cancer Centre in conjunction with the practice leaders and Senior Director, Regional Clinical Operations.

Collaborate with regional and provincial based colleagues including medical and operational leaders in support patient-focused and integrated care.

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for team members using effective management techniques; participate in hiring, retention, supervision, and recognition of staff.
  • Manage service area operations by coordinating and establishing priorities, assessing and monitoring staffing requirements and supplies.

Define an effective workforce plan in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders that ensure appropriate staff availability.

Prepare an operating budget, monitor variances and use best practice methods in reporting, monitoring and managing allocated budget;

coordinate contract management as required.

Lead, in collaboration with physicians & professional practice leaders, the identification of evidence based outcomes, the development of quality indicators and care pathways, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and coordinate or participate in quality improvement activities.

What you bring

Qualifications :

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field from an accredited university;

clinical nursing experience and a Master’s degree is a strong asset

  • 7-10 years’ recent and related clinical experience, including 2 years in a managerial / leadership capacity.
  • Current registration / membership with appropriate professional college (if applicable) is preferred.

  • Proven leadership and teambuilding abilities; foster collaborative working relationships that promote cooperative goal achievement and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships within a multidisciplinary environment, with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Critical thinking skills and proven ability to effectively manage human and fiscal resources.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of quality assurance process, operational planning and program development.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and / or database programs and ability to utilize a computerized patient care information system.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Support team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team / department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams / departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Have commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Salary Range : $106,026 - $152,413 per year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
