Position Overview

The City of Maple is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Recreation Program Assistant 1 to support festivals and events in the City of Maple Ridge. The incumbent will be involved in event set-up and take-down, activity engagement, dynamic program leadership, conducting event evaluations, and ensuring smooth activity operations. The role reports directly to the Neighbourhood Engagement Programmer overseeing neighbourhood events and activations within the City of Maple Ridge.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with event setup and teardown; support festival and event operations.
  • Engage participants and lead activities as required.
  • Provide dynamic program leadership and support event evaluations.
  • Ensure smooth activity operations and excellent participant experience.
  • Report to the Neighbourhood Engagement Programmer and coordinate with team members.

Required Education, Training and Experience

Two years of post-secondary education in Parks and Recreation or related field. Prior experience in a program leader capacity is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public, verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the principles of recreation and leisure.
  • Knowledge of program planning and evaluation procedures.
  • Required Licences and Certificates

    Class 5 Driver’s License valid in the Province of British Columbia.

    Hours of Work

  • Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement.
  • Work days are Wednesday through Sunday, with occasional flex opportunities based on service needs, totaling approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Additional Information

    This position is funded through the BC Summer Grant. Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years old at the time of application.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Some experience with events and a background in customer service.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment for short periods and stand for long periods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher).
  • Experience in dealing effectively and courteously with staff, community organizations, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records related to the work.
  • Experience in planning, developing, and scheduling events, services, and activities.
  • Experience in working with volunteers.
  • First Aid Certification preferred.
