Lakeshore Animal Health Partners is a leading veterinary specialty hospital located in Mississauga. Our hospital acts as a complete and coordinated team offering forward-thinking specialty care for your pet that closely mimics what is seen in human hospitals.

Our specialists provide care to patients while being involved in teaching students and interns, offering an established comparative research platform, and coordination with other facilities (academic and human hospitals) to ensure we always remain at the cutting edge of care.

We also act as an extension of your family veterinarian and provide updates to your family’s entire care team throughout their stay in the hospital.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Hospital Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a multi veterinarian, 24-hour emergency, specialist and referral hospital.

The successful candidate will be able to develop effective management systems to facilitate growth, establish a dynamic team culture, drive results and manage existing operations.

This role requires the hands-on supervision of a team of 120+ individuals on 24-hour shift rotations and is expected to work a variety of shifts that include : days, evenings, and weekends.

The Hospital Director reports directly to the Regional Director.

In addition, the Hospital Director is responsible for ensuring operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures and personnel systems are in place to effectively grow the hospital and to ensure its financial strength and operating efficiency.

As a group, the leadership team is responsible for collaborating with the Hospital Director to ensure sound financial performance and team engagement.

Skills and Abilities

  • experience leading a large team of staff in a proactive and professional manner.
  • a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems in all aspects of the business.
  • financial planning experience with the ability to read and interpret financial documents.
  • written and verbal communication.
  • organizational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple assignments within tight deadlines.
  • experience operating within budgetary guidelines and achieving financial targets.

Financial Performance & Reporting

  • yearly budget and business plans in conjunction with the leadership team and Regional Director.
  • hospital delivers outstanding financial results and maximizes short and long-term objectives.
  • in regular meetings with leadership team to review hospital business plans and financial results.
  • monitor and minimize controllable expenses.
  • the growth of the client base by assessing, developing and implementing new programs.

Leadership

  • build and maintain relationships within a large team comprised of client services, medical support staff and veterinarians.
  • immediate credibility as the Director of the hospital by delivering results and navigating cross-functional priorities.
  • a culture of excellence focused on delivering gold standard client service, cultivating high morale and generating revenue.
  • with the leadership team to recruit a high-performance team using effective mentorship and performance management practices and techniques.

Human Resources

  • training plans for all clinic staff to ensure exceptional medical and client care to enable team members to grow and develop professionally.
  • staff receive regular coaching, performance evaluations and mentoring including continuing education to assist in achieving objectives.
  • any performance or disciplinary issues, following VetStrategy protocols for documentation.
  • all relevant agency (OVMA, CVO, WHMIS, OHS, Employment Standards, etc.) requirements, rules and regulations are followed.

Communication & Strategic Planning

  • cohesively and effectively with hospital Medical Director to carry out and implement local and leadership initiatives.
  • and implement organizational improvement, training and problem solving consistent with, and in concert to achieve, the vision of the hospital.

Responsible for overseeing implementation timelines and resource management.

  • effective relationships with vendor partners and works to maximize rebate and support levels.
  • and regularly communicate in a timely manner with our VetStrategy support office.
  • regular all staff meetings.
  • adherence to all VetStrategy and hospital policies, procedures and protocols.

Administrative

  • staff timesheets are monitored for accurate payroll.
  • Daily and weekly monthly reports are updated in a timely manner to support the finance department.
  • appropriate inventory levels and ensure successful counts bi-annually.
  • other duties as assigned by the Regional Director.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ year’s leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • in business administration or other relevant post-secondary education.
  • ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
  • understanding of financial analysis, KPIs and budgeting.
  • as a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) considered an asset.
